Days Inn Washington DC / Connecticut Avenue
Ranked #122 of 141 Hotels in Washington DC
Reviewed April 22, 2011

We stayed at this hotel for five nights while visiting the DC area. First off lets start by saying this is a Days Inn and not a five star hotel. If you keep that in mind you will not be disappointed. The hotel is in a nice area of DC with several restaurants very close. The Metro is about 3 blocks away and it is a short 20 min. or less trip into downtown. It is even closer to Du Pont Circle where there are a very large number of restaurants. Using the Metro is the only way to visit DC, having a car is expensive, difficult, slow and unnecessary.

The hotel itself is somewhat old, yet has been updated. Our room was perfectly nice and had a nice flat screen TV. The Wi Fi worked very well. There has been some complaints about the "small" pillows yet we found average size pillows that had simply been folded in their cases (this seems to be a trend now at several hotels I have stayed in). If you just unfold the pillow it is just fine. Our room was on the small side but it didnt really matter as we were just there for sleep. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We stayed here during spring break when most hotels were charging well over $200+ a night, and while it wasn't what I would call cheap, it was certainly more reasonable than the competition. Overall this is a good solid place to stay, not all that far from downtown, and way more reasonably priced than many other places in town. I would stay here again without question.

My son and I stayed the night at the Days Inn Connecticut Avenue and for the price it was great. My son is a delegate for the People to People Leadership Summit that is taking place at the 4-H National Conference Center this week so we got in a day early to get in a little sightseeing. The hotel's location was perfect. We were 6 miles from our airport (Reagan National). We were a block away from the Metro station, across the street from several bus routes and about 2 miles away from the Conference Center. I decided not to rent a car and use public transportation instead (gas here is over $4 a gal). The room was very clean, quaint and comfortable.

The only slightly frustrating issue we had was getting directions from the front desk clerk the morning we checked out. We decided to take the bus to the Conference Center and asked her which one of the 3 buses, that stopped near the hotel, we should take. She was pleasant enough...but she said she didn't know and didn't make any effort to find out. It was obvious she didn't really want to be bothered. So, my son googlemapped it and we were on our way. Shouldn't local bus routes & metro station locations be something a hotel front desk clerk should know? Maybe not. Other than that little bump in the road, the stay was great and we recommend it.

Have been to DC several times and overlooked this hotel until by chance needed a room for one night in a hurry and saw it while walking by! Thought it would be a "dive" but for one night would risk bed bugs. We were VERY pleasantly surprised-clean, fairly quiet, excellent location and decent price. Would (and probably will) stay here in the future.

After a brief problem with the card key maker on check-in that wasted about 10 minutes of my day, I had a positive stay at the Days Inn on Connecticut Avenue in DC. I spent three nights there and only had some trouble with a group of children, who I think were from France, making a hell of a racket, but that had calmed down by the time I actually wanted to go to sleep after coming in late from an NHL game.

The big plus point about the Days Inn was the price, which came in about half of what the rest of the over-priced DC hotels were looking for. Of course this meant being out in the 'burbs, but it is still barely more than a 15-minute subway ride into the heart of things and Van Ness-UDC is a mere stroll to reach.

There are plenty of options for eating nearby (chains mainly like Burger King, Quiznos and Potbelly) and a few family restaurants plus the odd store.

The rooms are decently sized - I had two big beds even though I was on my own - but I am not a big fan of the small pillows on offer, the small square ones some chains seem to be edging towards. Give me a rectangular pillow any day of the week. The other facilities in-room were just fine, although the power in the shower was a little lacking, but these are just small things and shouldn't take away from the positive nature of my review.

A friend and I stayed here for 4 nights. The location for the price was amazing, a block away from the Van Ness Metro station and 2 miles away from the zoo. The rooms are spacious and very clean. There is an awesome pizza place right across the street. The only downside is that our room faced the street and was noisy during rush hour.

The cracks in the interior hallways have been fixed and the ceilings raised a bit. The first room given to us had a plastic trashcan in the bathroom collecting dripping water from the ceiling above. Much of the ceiling plaster was in the floor - next room was a little better. There were big long black hairs on the bed pillows and on the sheets. There was also a big long black hair on the back of the bathroom door. Wifi was free and the armed security guard at the front door really drove home the fact that this is a budget hotel in a not so great area. Dinner at the Burger King next door was - well - Burger King.

It's the cheapest place available downtown - at only $170 per night it's a steal for downtown DC.

We at the Days Inn Connecticut Avenue thank you for your input. It is guests like you who truly care about their experience that makes our jobs worthwhile. I apologize for any issues you may have encountered at our property. We take extra pride in our rooms, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure that our rooms are as clean as they possibly can be. I also wanted to apologize if any of our staff gave the impression that the area we are in is anything less than what it is-one of the SAFEST neighborhoods in the city. Being that we are in a major city, we try to stress to guests to be alert, but only as a precaution. We are nestled in the community of Van Ness, which boasts some of the most prominent members of our community. Thank you for your feedback, again.

Literally stunk. Upon arrival, we parked in the nice parking garage, checked on our room which wasn't ready yet. That was fine, it was only early afternoon. We did all of our site seeing with a family member that lives in DC. Around 10:15 pm we went to check into our room, toting our 2,4,6 year old (the younger two were half asleep). The unfriendly receptionist checked us in without giving us any guidance to what elevator or direction our room was in, so we had to ask someone else. Got to our room and thankfully my husband checked the bathroom before we got our stuff unpacked and the kids settled. THe bathroom was soaked and the ceiling was falling in. Obviously there was a leak above us. We load back up and head down to get a new room. The same unfriendly receptionist tells us they are short on rooms for the night. I inquire if by short on rooms she means they do not have any more or she just doesn't want to give us another? She suggested we wait for maintenance to come fix the problem. (This problem was not getting fixed anytime soon). When my husband said to just refund our money, magically an available room popped up. So up we went with our crew to our new room that was right across from our first room. We got settled. THe smell of both rooms is just disgusting. I was getting naseaous. I don't know if people were chain smoking in both rooms or if it is their cleaner... both rooms were supposedly nonsmoking. It was just overbearing and gross. The walls were thin and the people next door kept us up even later. Maintence showed up abotu 2 hours later to work on our room that was across the hall, so they were talking loudly and slamming doors for a bit. Listen, things happen, leaks happen, but considering the receptionist was unwilling to move our room at about 1030pm, i am reluctant to recommend or stay at this hotel again.
Otherwise both rooms looked clean and the hotel is very close to a metro stop. The price was great, but really, i would be willing to spend more money.
