This hotel was likely an apartment building at some time, that has since been reincarnated as a hotel, or at least, it has all the appearances of that. It was built probably in the late 50s or 60s, and has been renovated, particularly in the lobby, but a lot of the infrastructure remains, as well as the requisite tiny bathrooms, but generous living spaces (likely a result, in the suite we had, of taking out the kitchens).
It's really well located -- really near Capitol Hill, so for a touristic walkabout in Washington, it's perfect. It's also tucked away on a quiet residential street in the south-east (I think) quad, so it has both the monumental to one side, and the quieter side of Washington on the other.
The beds are comfortable, the washrooms a little on the small side (and the one we had was suffering a bit from some minor cosmetic damage), but for the price, and location, and the pretty cool lobby -- not much to complain about.
We skipped breakfast (tip -- don't go to Le Bon Café) at the hotel, so no comment there -- and I skipped mostly because the only thing left late in the morning was a carb laden muffin (which doesn't agree with my low carb diet).
One more minor complaint -- the AC units aren't the greatest, but on balance, it was a good night sleep at a very attractive rate in a well located hotel.
Definitely would recommend.
