I liked my room and the service. The location a nice walk to from DuPont Circle was really handy. At Breakfast there was virtually no protein and they never refilled the trays so early risers got the best pastries.

It is the cheapest one I can find in DC downtown. It about 15-20 min walk from White House. You can also take 96 bus to National Hall. Since it is cheap, of course you can't compare it with these 5-star hotel. But everything meets my expectations.
some cons:
1. AC is a bit noisy and the room is a bit hot in the summer.
2. Restroom is big but no screen for toilet. Therefore, if someone is sitting on toilet, you might have to wait. Therefore it may not be good for a big family.
But these two are not a major concern for me. We had a good time in DC.

My daughter and I found the hotel easily. Parking is difficult, as in all large cities, we got lucky after a cpl of moves to land in a spot that we could stay all night. Jamie greeted us, was friendly, helpful, full of tips. It is an old building but is DC. Has that character and have to expect steps and unique room lay outs and antiquey furniture. Our 2 bed room was bigger than I expected as was the bath. It did not feel dirty. The breakfast area was nice enough, better than some not as glorious as others. Pastries were local and daughter in heaven with them and the resident cat Mimi. 1/2 block down was a small convenient store that had water for reasonable. Bus ride to sites was less than 5 minutes. Ended up renting bikes and next time will pick them up off T street and just bike it all. WAS SUPER and inexpensive. Did need to have 200 deposit available for them so be prepared. Ate dinner at Local 16 which had a great happy hour with $5 apps and drinks and nightclub upstairs for later in the evening. Starbucks and Subway on that same corner... 3-5 minutes walk from Windsor. Will absolutely stay here again! (About $100)

This was a very minimalist hotel. Overall a moderate hotel. I would look for another alternative next time. May be DC downtown is costly and hence the facilities are less here.

Positives: Proximity to metro station and the national mall. Security is nice. They lock front gate after 7pm.

Negatives: Rooms are tiny, except for bed there is hardly any space. Cleanliness is moderate. Breakfast served is only bread and cereals. No elevator. There were damp spots on the ceiling. Rooms in basement as well...

Room Tip: Select a room on 3rd level, numbered 301-310. Ice machine is on the same floor.

I very nearly cancelled my stay at the Windsor Inn after reading so many negative comments. However, as bmaguire13 says its a great place if you come with the right expectations. I found every person on the front desk friendly and extremely helpful with Phylis being the absolute standout. Her manner and ability to problem solve are to be highly commended.
After spending a frightful week in New York my whole trip has been reinvigorated by my stay at the Windsor Inn. Sure it is in need of some serious renovations but then it would be double the price. If you want glitz stay at the Hyatt. If you want warmth and hospitality in a great location at a value for money price then stay at the Windsor Inn. I certainly will be if I come back to Washington DC.

We rather liked the quaintness of this place, the young african/american girl on reception when we checked in was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are old-fashioned but really for the price we couldn't complain - although the breakfast was awful!!

We stayed three nights at the windsor inn. My wife and me have been in several hotels before. Even on the lower end of the price scale we have never experienced such a dirty hotel before. Our room was smelling and dirty. The bed sheet was dirty. The air con was only a fan. It was to hot in the room evrn with the fan.
