“mostly a good experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2007

My husband and I went to Washington as tourists in October 2007 and spent four nights at the Georgetown Hotel and Suites. The hotel is very well located, close to the Metro, Georgetown, Dupont Circle, and George Washington University. The National Mall is a pleasant 1 mile walk. The area felt very safe and there was enough activity on the streets to feel safe late into the evening. The hotel has no restaurant or bar, but there are dozens of them nearby. I found it to be an ideal location.

We checked in our room mid-afternoon but did not try to use the air conditioner until about 10:30pm. We found the air conditioner didn't work, and it actually had duct tape on it. The room was quite warm and stuffy. We called the front desk, and were immediately moved to a room with two well-functioning air conditioners. We found hotel staff to be very accomodating and courteous. The air conditioner was my only complaint about this hotel - so if you go test out the amenities right away.

The rooms are larger than a typical hotel room and were pleasantly decorated. Everything was clean and fresh, with nice bed linens and thick, plush towels. The beds were quite comfortable. Our first room had one queen bed and a sofabed, along with several chairs; our second room had two queen beds and three chairs around a table. Both rooms had a small fridge, sink, and microwave, along with a few dishes and silverware, plus a 1-2 cup coffeemaker and coffee. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board were provided. The bathroom was clean and had everything we needed.

The continental breakfast is just average, but the breakfast room was pleasant and well-kept. There was cold cereal, instant oatmeal, toast/english muffins/bagels, hard-boiled eggs, pastries and donuts that were nothing special, and juice, coffee, and milk.

Next to its location, the best thing about this hotel was it's price. We paid $158.00 per night, when most hotels in that area were charging $250-$400 per night.

When I arrived for two-day mid-week stay they had over booked and it took them two hours to find me another much cheaper Best Western hotel miles from Washington D.C. near a highway north of the Pentagon with no restaurant. This was a bad start.

The staff seemed to be completely lost and the manager even worse. While waiting the two hours to get moved to the other hotel I overheard several people coming to complain about complaints they had already made at least once but which had not been dealt with.

When I emailed a letter to Best Western to complain about the treatment I received and requested a free night as I was forced to stay in DC two more days to reschedule meetings I had missed transferring to the hotel in Virginia, they never replied.

The room was fine. It was quite large, had a separate seating area, an average sized bathroom, and a small counter with a sink and microwave. The decoration is tasteful. It had a desk, a telephone and a fairly large TV.

The continental breakfast is okay. Most of the items (donuts and pastries) were cold as if they had been frozen and thawed early morning. The cereals (corn checks, raisin bran, and cherrios) were stale (yes...I tried them all looking for one that was eatable).

I would not recommend this place because of it poor management, unless you are willing to put up with hassels to stay close to George Washington University or Dupont Circle. But I would recommend you look around as there are better choices available.

The hotel is in a great location, easy to get to George Washington University, the metro and Georgetown. We took our son to Washington to visit the local colleges. The room was way too small for 3 people. The staff was not very helpful. Lots of language problems. As for the free breakfast, well it was free and lets leave it at that. And as far as parking, the hotel has an arrangement with the Ritz Carlton Hotel 3 blocks away. $18.00 for the day, and you can come and go as you please. Next time I will stay at the Ritz, closer to my car and I can park for free.

We got a great deal on this hotel, but you get what you pay for. The hotel is in a great location (safe and near the metro), but a lot needs to be updated. The sheets on the pull out bed were dirty and overall the room wasn't very clean. It could also be that things are old, thus dirtier. The staff was nice, but if you can't handle your own baggage, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Parking turned out to be a nightmare. You have to park your car at the Ritz Carleton, which is no big deal unless you lose your parking ticket like we did. Best Western automatically charges your bill $18 per day to park. Since we couldn't find our ticket, the Ritz made us pay $18 per day to get our car out of their lot. Total we had to pay $108 in parking for 3 days! Best Western refused to help out in any way with the parking situation. They REALLY need to work on this because we cannot be the first people to lose a parking stub.

If we go back to D.C., I would look for a different hotel.

Stayed 2 nights July 12 & 13. Hotel was hard to find, had to self park in another hotels garage a street over. There are a few steps before the lobby and no one to help with bags. Finally got a guy but by then we had hauled most of our luggage. Rooms are in need of updating and actually appeared they were doing that now, new desk chairs. Room lay out is strange and not easy to get around. TV stand is suppose to separate beds from sitting area but just proves to be in the way. No room around the beds. Kitchen area is very small and so is the bathroom. It gets very hot and steamy. 2 AC units, kitchen barely cool and bedroom freezing, not great. I had an overall unclean feeling. Staff was nice, location was okay but I would not stay here again. Got a deal on Quikbook but I would advise you to keep looking.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2007

Family of four stayed 5 nights in June. We got a great deal on the place, basically half price in the prime summer months. For about $150 a night it was worth it, but I wouldn't spend much more. Beds were 1 double and 1 pull out couch which was very uncomfortable, even for the kids. The sheets were very worn, bath towels pretty skimpy. The room was called a "suite" because of a TV armoire positioned smack dab in the middle of the room "dividing" it into 2 rooms. However the tv stand made it very awkward to get around as there was basically about 1 foot between the bed and the stand. The kitchen consisted of a super small sink, a small microwave, 3 plates, ONE fork and ONE knife, and a small fridge. Do not think you can save money by preparing your own meals. About the only thing you could do was pop a bag of popcorn if you wanted. The bathroom was OK, not very big, but big enough. The free breakfast in the morning was the same every morning and OK - store bought bagels, danish, and muffins, some hard boiled eggs, some apples, cold cereals and instant oatmeals. There are a few coffee places including Starbucks about a 5 minute walk away. The location is good, about a 10 minute walk to the Metro at Foggy Bottom and a 15 minute walk to the other one. It is within walking distance of the white house and a good walk down to the mall. Prices for most hotels in DC were around 300 - 400 including 325 or so for the Embassy Suites, so for 150 it was a real good value, but if prices are close to other hotels, I would consider them first next time.

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in Washington DC. The Best Western has an outstanding location. You can easily walk to Georgetown and Dupont Circle restaurants and shops as well as the Foggy Bottom Metro Station which takes you anywhere in the city.

The staff was very pleasant but the rooms are dated and need many repairs. Our bed was old, the towels were torn and some of the furnshings were broken. It was really a shame because they have a lovely breakfast in the morning, the staff is very helpful and polite and as I said, the location is excellent.

If the ownership would spend some money on renovations, I am sure they could easily charge more and have happier guests.
All in all, I wouldn't not recommend it...just be aware that you are getting what you pay for.
