This restaurant was hopping on a Saturday night with a crowd that was mostly couples, though there was a family or two there as well (and some single guys eating at the bar). The atmosphere is chic but not stuffy. The prices are high ($24 for meatloaf), but the portions are generous. My meal was great, topped off by one of the best desserts I've ever had: a "deconstructed" banana split -- do not try to eat this on your own (this is a two-person dessert, or more, if ever there was one). I was a little dismayed at first to see a couple next to me with two young children who were sitting there with their coloring books. (Dismayed not so much at the children, who were well-behaved, but with the parents. You're going to take a child who would be happy with a Happy Meal to a place where even a burger is nearly $20? If you're so stinking rich you can afford to spend an extra $70 or more just so your kids can not eat some gourmet mashed potatoes I'd prefer you not flaunt it.)

Central is a great place for a higher-end lunch. The menu consists of upscale American dishes like fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, crab cakes, etc. The roasted fingerling potatoes that accompanied the rotisserie chicken were AMAZING. Chicken itself was very good, perhaps a little dry for rotisserie. Our server was professional, super friendly, but not over the top. Would definitely go back.

Lunch with friends couldn't have been better. This is a hopping, busy place but still with outstanding service. I had the grilled trout meuniere over salsify and sunchoke - amazing! Perfectly cooked. Others had the steak tartar and hargar steak which were delicious as was the lobster bisque which included many pieces of lobster meat and not just the "essence" of it that you get so many places. We shared the lemon tart for dessert - so unusual and tasty. It consisted of small eggs made of a type of marzipan type of candy and inside was a egg white like mousse and the yolk was a lemon custard. They all sat on an edible birds nest with edible crumbles. What a lunch. We hated to leave. So worth the money. service was perfect.

The finest DC lunch spot, 5 blocks away from the White House. The French onion soup was a but, crab cake sandwich was perfectly prepared. This spot is a must do experience, great value.

Went there for dinner with friends who live in DC. Conversation was difficult early on as the tables are quite close and the place was packed, especially the long bar area. Good is well plated without being high end. Burgers, short ribs, fish, nothing fancy. The "chocolate bar" is like a Kit Kat on steroids. A must have dessert. After about 9:00 the noise quiets down and it's very pleasant.
