“Lat-Asian near the Verizon Center? Perfect!”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

I was skeptical about a Latin-Asian fusion menu, but this place has me planning to return. In fact, there were several small plates that I cannot stop thinking about. The Thai chicken empanadas were tasty, and with the hoisin pork arepas, I was considering licking the plate. The hamachi and tuna bites were good too, but much more like typical sashimi than anything Latin fusion. The guacamole was the largest of the small plates, but lacked zip.The Asian pear empanadas for dessert are not to be missed - a perfect combo of slight sweetness in a crust, served with a dab of ice cream. We did not try any of the large entree-size plates but were quite satisfied nonetheless. Service on a Saturday at 6:30 pm was friendly, fast and efficient, perfect for getting over to the Caps game by 7 pm.

“NOISY”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

This looks like a very hip place to meet but on a Friday night you cannot hear yourself think, much less hearing the greeter who is trying to seat you. We went upstairs for a private party and it was very hot. They were not prepared for us and the appetizers served were substandard. It is possible that regular table service offers more palatable selections but I highly doubt it. Why eat here when there are so many to choose from?

“Good atmosphere, ok food”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

The noteworthy category on the menu is the cevices - try all of them! other than that, nothing too inspiring. Place was very lively and happy, and the bar looked quite busy.

“Clearly trying too hard...”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We tried Zengo for a quick bite and a drink before moving on to other bars in the Penn Quarter area. It was happy hour, with drink and food specials. The decor is "trendy" with house-type music playing. We sat at the bar, where the problems were almost entirely the result of a bartender with a bad attitude. Clearly he was too cool to spend any time looking customers in the eye, checking on their needs, or offering decent service. He spilled mixer on my wife three times while making drinks, and never brought water when asked. The bar was busy, but not slammed, but he acted like he was serving twice as many people as he really was.

Besides the poor service, the drinks were mostly mixer, and the food was good, not great, but not worth the money. With so many other options around the Verizon Center/Penn Quarter area, I would recommend nearly anywhere else for food or drinks.

“Cocktails!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Lovely cocktails......food was pretty good, definitely the Asian-Latin fusion twist so don't go thinking you will get a plate that is just Asian or just Latin.
