This B&B is absolutely amazing and worth every drop of effort to get to. Breakfast is home-made and staff are just exquisite!!! It books up quick, so make sure to call and get the room of your choice early.

Room Tip: If it is available, try to get the Zora Neale Hourston Room

My fiance and I stayed at the Akwaaba when we went to Washington DC to get married. We couldn't have chosen a better bed and breakfast! The innkeeper, Joanna, was hospitable, welcoming and helpful as we planned out where we would eat and visit during our stay. She was also an amazing cook! Breakfasts at the inn were delicious! Joanna even made meals that catered to my lactose intolerance.

The accommodations were beautiful as well. We stayed in the Zora Neal Hurston Room and it quickly became our home away from home. The Akwaaba is walking distance from everywhere we wanted to be in Dupont Circle. We drove there but were able to park our car in the private parking area and walk to our wedding venue and reception.

We have no complaints about this b&b and would definitely stay there anytime we return to the DC area.

Room Tip: The rooms have private bathrooms and window air conditioning units so you can just pick any room tha...

As part of a group of 3 couples travelling to DC for a 4 night vacation we decided to try a B&B rather than a known hotel chain. It was a great decision. Our innkeeper Joanna was just terrific. Always willing to help and provide her local knowledge. Added plus was we got to meet other folks visiting DC and share experiences over the daily wonderful breakfast and afternoon "tea". Akwaaba is conveniently located to public transportation and in an area chock full of really good restaurants.

We stayed here for 2 nights in October and we really enjoyed our stay. The Bed & Breakfast is located in a very nice residential area. It is walking distance from restaurants, museums, the metro, the National Mall and all the attractions. Our room (modern classics) was very nicely decorated, it was clean and spacious with all the amenities you need. Breakfast is quite an experience it self! It is prepared by the owners every day and served family style. Everything we had was delicious and in big portions, exactly what you need to start a busy day! The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. You can get information on local events, including dining and theater plays. It is definitely a true local experience and highly recommended.

This is an old city house, with impressing living rooms.
Innkeeper Joanna did everything to make our stay unforgettable, from her hearty breakfasts to emergency shopping consultancy (as we arrived it was hot and damp like in Amazonas country, and we really needed summer things, but only got answers like 'we have alrady changed for the fall/winter collectionmade').
The location of the house is just great, a quiet and save neighborhood with enough restaurants within walking distance.
Downtown is 20 minutes away walking, or 10 minutes away to the Dupont Circle Metro station.
Bottom line: expect an old city house, a most charming decoration, also in every room, in a nice and friendly neighbourhood, not far away from the centre, and most important: a most charming Joanne.
Thanks for all that.

Joanna, the very welcoming and helpful innkeeper, really made our stay here great. The hearty breakfast and early evening snacks (prepared/cooked on site and not reheated from ready-made frozen version!) were a big plus to start our day and refuel our energy after a long day outside. The location was great - neighborhood very lively, and easy to get to downtown area by Metro or just walk (if the weather is nice and you are not hurrying to get to a specific location).

Eventually this is a B&B in an old house, so I wouldn't expect the facilities to be the same (modern, high-tech) as in new-built business hotels, and indeed some small places could do with a bit more TLC. The personal touch and warm hospitality, also the feeling of meeting other travelers in a nice big house, are what make Akwaaba a great choice.

Room Tip: Our room got very cold during a couple of nights - guess it is typical during autumn that the rain b...
