“A great place to hang out for breakfast or more”
Review of Kafe Leopold

Good for: Business meetings
Dining options: Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, Reservations
Description: Forget all the cliches about heavy Austrian fare served by waiters in lederhosen. Leopold is about as Euro trendy as it gets, with an all-day coffee and drinks bar, an architecturally hip dining space, and a chic little patio complete with a minifountain. Food is pared-down Mitteleuropean: mushroom tart, crisp schnitzel paired with peppery greens, an endive salad with mustard dressing. In the middle of a design-obsessed alley just off of M Street, the cafe draws an artsy city crowd that's content to sit and watch the scene evolve, just as it's done in Europe. Brunch is a particularly popular setting for such people-watching manna, and the neat-as-a-pin breakfast is available daily until 4 pm. The perfect oasis for breakfast, lunch, dinner or anything in between. They have a very respectable wine list that compliment all the dinner specials. Reservations are taken for dinner only, starting at 5pm.

“A great place to hang out for breakfast or more”
Reviewed July 13, 2014

This place is fascinating. Start with a good coffee from one of the good brands in Austria. Rich menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner with lots of traditional Austrian food. You can start easy and relax through the day. Best to enjoy in their shady garden.

“Pricey, but cool and yummy”
Reviewed July 3, 2014 via mobile

We had a late breakfast. Ham and cheese scone and the Croque Monsieur ($15) were delicious. Fruit was fresh! Our waitress was very friendly!

“Disappointing!!!!”
Reviewed June 25, 2014

I don't know what has happened to this urban chic restaurant but it has changed beyond recognition. Although on the surface the cool interior and terrace area are the same the food is terrible. Three times I have tried to get coffee and boiled eggs and three times the coffee has been nasty tasting, bitter and the eggs raw and I mean RAW. This is even after asking them to make sure they are cooked. The staff although very pleasant don't seem to understand that coffee and tea should be served hot and that food should be cooked. I also think that $7.50 is an extortionate amount to pay for a cake, a family of 4 would have to pay almost $40 before drinks. Crazy!!!!!!
Sad to see something which was so good turn into something so disappointing. Has it changed hands??????

“Dessert Specialties”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

The four of us fell into this place from a rainy evening upon recommendation from our hotel, and we were not disappointed. Not only was the service attentive, fun and witty, but we left feeling like royalty with gifted bagged warm almond croissants. The atmosphere is spacious, light and fun, just like the desserts. Enjoy!!

“Hidden Gem in Georgetown”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

We stumbled on Kafe Leopold while roaming the alleys of Georgetown. I ordered a Spiked Arnold Palmer (brewed mint tea with lemonade and vodka), the Watermelon salad (w/ tomato, feta, watercress & a white vinaigrette) and a trio of tea sandwiches. My husband ordered what were described as dumplings but it was more like little nuggets of pasta. The dumplings were savory and delicious. The watermelon salad was refreshing and the trio of tea sandwiches were a great accompaniment to the salad. For dessert we ordered a cup of coffee and the napoleon. The pastry cream in the napoleon was a perfect combination of light and sweet.

Overall, the service was great, the food was delicious and the cafe is a cute find. I can't wait to come back and sample the rest of their menu.
