This hotel is excellent value at Christmas time. The staff are lovely and very helpful, the rooms were clean and very comfortable and the breakfast was first class. The made-to-order omletes at breakfast are a must. I would definitely stay here again. My one little complaint is that the pool was cold, the jacuzzi was too hot, minor irritants which can be easily fixed. My teenage daughter enjoyed the internet facilities available in the lobby. Washington DC is a fantastic holiday venue!

Dear zena36,

I love DC in Christmas time too. Not quite as expensive or hectic as NYC, but still lots to see and do and definitely a good value with all our extras and all the free museums in DC. I hope you had time to check out the National Christmas Tree near the White House. It is an easy 15 minute walk from our hotel – very beautiful – and very free!

I do apologize for the issues with the pool and Jacuzzi. Believe it or not, we actually have a pretty sophisticated system that is supposed to automatically manage the temperature of the pool water as well as the air temperature in that room. The air temp is always supposed to be 2 degrees warmer than the water so you don’t feel cold when you get out of the pool. Clearly a little re-calibration is in order for that and the hot tub as well. Thank you for reporting it and we will check it out.

I’m glad your daughter enjoyed the (free) internet kiosks in the lobby. We have total of 12 PCs in the hotel that provide free internet access and we find they are very popular for our guests who prefer to travel without a laptop.

Thanks again for staying with us and I hope you will come back next year if not sooner!

My family spent 5 nights at this hotel in December. We had a fantastic corner room, which was very comfortable, clean and quiet. There was plenty of storage space, we had a great large table and chairs in the main room. The location of the hotel was fantastic as we were able to walk to just about everything. Especially great location to the cap's stadium and convention center. Breakfast's were great, and so was the managers cocktail evening. Nice pool and great workout facility. Staff was very sweet and helpful.
However, we had a few issues, that just seemed to be bad luck. Our heat was out for over 24 hours, even with a wonderful maintenance man trying to fix it. The staff was great and left us chocolates, food vouchers and space heaters. However, the hot water ended up going out on us twice as well. The TV also needed to be fixed, and one night the person below must have been sneaking cigarettes in the bathroom and the smoke smell was super strong. However, the staff was great dealing with the situations, and the customer service was top notch. We really couldn't complain too much.
Even with all the hiccups we would definitely stay again, just maybe not in that room...

Dear seanandshawn,

Thank you for the kind review in spite of the hiccups you experienced. First let me say that I am very very sorry for the lack of hot water. Running out of hot water is one of the worst sins that can happen in a hotel. It should NEVER happen and I sincerely apologize!

All of our major building systems (heating, air conditioning, hot water…etc…) have redundancy built in, so even if we have a problem with the main system, there is a back up- and you should never be aware of the problem. For hot water, we actually have 3 huge hot water heaters. On a typical day, one or two heaters can handle the load easily. On peak mornings when we have sometimes 300 rooms taking a shower all at the same time, all 3 boilers fire up. Even then, you can normally take long hot shower and never ever run out of hot water.

Of course, Murphy’s law on the morning you were here…. So much natural gas was getting sucked into the boilers that one automatic safety sensor thought we had gas leak and it kept shutting down the pipe to boiler #3. Modern equipment is usually great but we could not over-ride it and a technician had to come on site to replace the faulty sensor. The problem actually lasted less than 3 hours but then it took another hour for the hot water tank to get back up to the normal hot temperature, and of course by then many guests and endured a luke warm (luke cold?) shower. I really apologize.

As for the heat in your room – that is an anomaly. You should be able to make your suite as warm or cool as you like on demand. If you send me a note with your room number, we will double check the valves in that particular HVAC unit – and I apologize for that and the TV too.

In spite of these issues, I am very happy to read that you seemed to “feel the love” from our staff. Everyone from Housekeeping to Engineering to the Front Desk and Breakfast wants to make sure you enjoy your stay, feel appreciated, and most importantly… come back.

Thanks again for your kind review and I do hope that will we see in you DC again!

The Embassy Suites - Convention Center is in a good location and less than a mile walk from the Mall. We chose the Embassy Suites since there was four of us (large rooms / suite), free breakfast, close to the museums and, most importantly, able to use Hilton Honors points.

The hotel is very nice and the service quality was suburb. Their restaurant, Finn & Porter, is where breakfast is served. The breakfast lines were huge but the staff kept it moving well. On New Year's, they also had breakfast in another room and it made the wait less. The food quality of the buffet is just fair - but it is complimentary. The cooked to order omelets were decent.

The room (suite) was huge, especially for a large city hotel, clean and comfortable. We were given a handicap room based on immediate availability and that has a shower only without a rim. Makes the bathroom wet and probably would wait for a regular room unless you need a handicap facility. There is a small refrigerator in the room but it was very loud and we had to unplug it for a while.

We dined at the Hard Rock Cafe (only a few blocks from the hotel - typical HRC food) and Buca di Beppo in Dupont Circle (excellent Italian food).

Overall, Embassy Suites - Convention Center is a very good place if you are traveling with your family and looking to sightsee.

Dear bubbafb,

Thank you for your nice review. I am very happy to hear that you rang in the new year with us. I do apologize for the lines in breakfast. The hotel is very busy with lots of families around the holidays and, like anybody on vacation, people like to sleep in a little bit and then the restaurant tends to get slammed for the last hour of breakfast. We recommend coming early to avoid the lines, but we like to sleep in too on vacation – so we understand. At the very least, we try to make sure we are fully staffed so- like you said – the line keeps moving. Even when the restaurant is at peak occupancy, we hustle to make sure the coffee never runs out and you experience a hot, fresh and plentiful (if busy) breakfast.

I see that you accepted a handicapped suite so you could check in early probably. As you experienced, our handicapped suites are pretty large. They are designed to give someone in a wheelchair enough room to move around without difficulty. So they are some of our largest suites - - but as you noticed, that also means no bathtub- so that a guest in a wheelchair can wheel in and take a shower right there with a drain in bathroom floor. I wish the floor sloped more towards the back wall to help contain the water. The floor does kind of get wet - - but if you call Housekeeping we are always happy to bring you more towels or mop it up anytime upon request.

Finally I am glad you ate dinner in Finn & Porter with us one night - - and as you discovered, there are lots of other options within a short walking distance.

Thanks for staying with us and Happy New Year!

From Raymond, the short order chef, to the outstanding desk staff and excellent concierge, the word is customer service. Everyone goes out of their way to be most helpful and courteous. The complimentary managers party was very generous. Well located, we never needed our cAr as we walked to all of Washington's many fabulous sites. Don't miss the Newseum!

Dear webwiz1,

Wow… you made my day! We know there are many nice hotels in DC, so we really try to stand out by having an extra friendly staff… and it seems like we hit our goal with you. Especially in winter time, we know that travelers in DC have many options in hotels, so we are very grateful for all our guests who brave the cold and visit us in the off season (winter.) The breakfast chef, Raymond, is one of our best team members…. he can cook 8 omelets in a row and remember every order. I will be certain to read your posting at our next team member meeting to share your kudos. And, you are right on about the Newseum… it is one of the newest, most modern, and I think, most interesting museums in the city - - less than 20 minutes away walking or 4 minutes in a cab. I hope other Trip Advisor readers will follow your advice…. we find that most guests really enjoy the Newseum. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

We spend 4 days in DC and got an opportunity to stay here. Got a King suite which was ideal for us since the 2 boys could sleep on the sleeper sofa and we had the privacy of the King room. Free breakfast buffet quality was excellent and heated swimming pool was a blessing in the cold weather. Walking distance to all the attractions and close to Metro and buses. Freindly staff and great managers reception in the evenining. The business center concept was unique and it was computer kiosks with printer at each kiosk. It was very convenient. Highly recommend this hotel.

Dear rdb2011,

I loved reading your review. In a few short lines, you seem to have summed up everything that we are trying to achieve at our hotel. Nice suites, high quality breakfast buffet, indoor pool for the kids, great location for sightseeing (or business) and friendly, helpful staff. I am glad you enjoyed our internet kiosks too. We find they are very popular with folks who travel without their own laptop computer. In fact, we have 3 kiosks with 9 computers that offer complimentary internet access and printing so you have a quick and convenient place to check email and print your boarding pass or mapquest directions without having to pay for computer time. It sounds like you might not have discovered this, but we also have 3 more computers and a fax/scanner located in our actual business center located on the lower lobby level (one floor down from the main lobby.) Our business center is also free and each PC is set at a comfortable work desk so you can sit down and work for longer periods of time comfortably if necessary. Once again, thank you for your review and I hope we will see you again in the new year!

Sincerely,

David Del Russo
