Owner description: The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is centered in the 400 block of E Street, NW, and is the nation's monument to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Dedicated on October 15, 1991, the Memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people. The Memorial features two curving, 304-foot-long blue-gray marble walls. Carved on these walls are the names of more than 20,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty throughout U.S. history, dating back to the first known death in 1791. Unlike many other memorials in Washington, DC, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is ever-changing: new names of fallen officers are added to the monument each spring, in conjunction with National Police Week in May. The National Law Enforcement Museum will be built across the street, with construction scheduled to commence this spring. In the meantime, we offer a guided 90-minute walking tour in the heart of DC, learning about presidential assassinations, attempted assassinations, and the officers who work behind the scenes protecting our president. For more information, email us at the address provided.

I googled this after a friend told me I should check it out. I was so glad I found it! It was right at the metro stop and very convenient. It was a nice, peaceful area to stop and remember those who have served. I found three officers from my hometown listed in the book, and on the wall.

This is one memorial in DC where the body count continues to climb. They WILL run out of room with the current design as our brave men and women in blue are slain in the line of duty. Immediately off the Judiciary Square Metro stop, be sure to pause, reflect, and give thanks for those who wage the never-ending battle between good and evil.

The design for this memorial to police officers fallen in the line of duty is uplifting as well as kind. It is kind because the bronze statues of the female and male lions appear to be compassionately yet strongly caring for their cubs. Like the adult lions, our law enforcement officers try to look out for us in these dangerous times.

Be sure to visit this memorial while in DC. It is close to the Capitol Building. It is a very sobering reminder of the sacrifice that our law enforcement officers face every day.
