This is a great place to renew your spirituality. I grew up visiting the Franciscan Monastery and, after 34 years, I was happy to return. Spring and fall are best.

A must see in Washington DC after the Capitol, Monuments, Museums, and White House. We were able to decompress here after days of walking.

The gardens at this monastery are peaceful and spectacular all at once. Go in the spring when the bulbs and azaleas are in bloom--they had thousands of tulips in bloom when we were there. The path meanders through the garden, past waterfalls and benches so you can sit and enjoy soaking up the beauty around you!

We found this to be a great diversion from the hustle of The Mall area in Washington DC. We walked from the metro stop, and despite going the wrong direction for about 5 blocks, the walk was nice. Id recommend this one for sure, and don't miss the catacomb tour! Very cool! When we arrived we learned there weren't any tours that day, however the guide made a special provision and took us down despite the fact that there was a special event in a different area.

I read that there was a monastery in Washington Dc and saw a few pictures. So we took a visit, by using the red line of the Metro system. You still have to walk for 10-15 minutes, but especially the last part is nice with looking at nice houses. Arriving at the entrance of the Monastery, you immediately see that everything is immaculate. Beautiful garden. One part is a sort of path that tells the story of Jesus crucifixion and some replica's of areas around the world. The church itself is so beautiful; especially the wall sculptures/art: it's 3-dimensional. It is breath taking. Outside the wall is a sort of a hallway, you can walk through and it have the ave maria in all languages, Very neat! Surely worth a visit.
