I was attending a business conference at the nearby Hilton hotel(across the road) and this was a perfect location in the very pleasant Adams Morgan area.
The breakfasts that were preared fresh by the chef each morning were particalurly good and imaginative and appetising .
I could not fault the stay and would recommend the AGH to anyone with a 5 * rating.

Was at a conference at the nearby Hilton and this was a perfect location in the gorgeous Adams Morgan area. Interesting to walk the streets and look at some of the other beautiful houses. Not too far to walk to Dupont Circle metro and even closer the shops and restaurants of Adams Morgan. The building has always been a guest house or rooming house and has a lot of charm. The room I had was small but perfect for one. Take care if you don't want to climb a lot of stairs as no elevator! Great breakfasts served at big communal table and therefore very interesting conversations in the morning.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room as for one not facing the street. Also there is no lift and you could have...

This location was perfect for us--a few blocks up from Dupont Circle, a few blocks down from the National Zoo, a very easy stroll to the Dupont Circle Metro stop, which is then only a couple of stops from the National Mall. This classic old "brown stone" (actually white) could use a bit more restoring, but it is beautiful both inside and out. We stayed on the 4th floor--we didn't mind the climb at all, but if you don't want to climb, remember there is no elevator and go for a lower floor. The room was small by American standards, but well appointed and comfortable, and we were only in the room to sleep. The best thing about the American Guest House is LISA! She is a retired chef who cooks delicious breakfasts, different every morning--and she is a wonderful person to talk to. You'll miss half the fun if you don't ask her about her life, and she gave us absolutely flawless advice on restaurants for dinner--zeroed in on exactly what we wanted. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to D.C.

Staying here was a treat. It was about 2 minutes from the conference I was attending at the Washington Hilton and I got a much friendlier place to stay. Meeting people from my conference and several others over breakfast lead to some very interesting conversations.

Room Tip: Breakfasts were fantastic!

Everything about our 4-night stay at the American Guest House was top-notch. The location was perfect, central enough to make touring and dining easy, but not also quiet. The house is absolutely beautiful and our two rooms at the top of the house were spacious, comfortable, and charming. But the hospitality was what really made the stay special. Guests ate together at a big table and we got to know, and exchange tips and experiences, with such a variety of interesting people. And then there was.... Lisa's cooking! Oh joy. Even on the last morning, when we had to leave quite early, she was waiting with delicious bagged brunches for all four of us to take on the train. That was really the ultimate in great hospitality.

We chose this Inn based on it's location. We were able to walk to the White House, WWII Memorial and National Zoo. Although the walks were made a little more challenging by a rare March snow storm for the area. Parking is available in either the nearby Marriott or Hilton garages at around $36.00/day, not cheap but we were able to get an on line Inn discount at the time of booking which covered the parking cost for one of the two night we were there. There are lots of great restaurants within easy walking distance. Our hostess, Lisa, is an absolute delight and amazing cook. Everything from scratch! Our room was warm and cozy and bed very comfortable. It was actually way too warm for us the first night but was quickly taken care of when the issue was addressed. I'm sure it was set warm as Washington was experiencing an
all-time record low temperatures while we were there. (we're northerners and are used to it) While the website warns of it's smaller size and lacking luggage storage space, we found it just fine for two people staying 2 nights. There were 2 luggage racks that fit easily at the foot of the bed without interfering with needed room space as well as a closet. Our only concern was that while they do post a notice regarding conservation and reuse of towels (as most lodgings do these day) it was unfortunate that the shower required running the water for a wastefully long time before it warmed enough to use. Once it did-no complaints.
We would stay here again without hesitation and recommend this Inn to anyone.
