This is a very clean, and courteously staffed extended stay apartment hotel. I stayed for two weeks on business. It is very upscale urban chic and 'green'. I stayed in the 900 sq. ft. 1-bdrm 2 bath apartment and it had everything: full sized fridge, washer and dryer, dish-stocked kitchen, cabinets, utensils, etc.; walk in closet, 2 televisions, the rooms actually had a doorbell outside the room door! Complimentary continental b'fast each morning. A wonderful business area with MACs and PCs for guests use (free) and a small conference room too. I understand that they are going to change the minimum night's stay to 15. It has historically been 7 nights minimum (sad face). Lots of international guests stay here too. It's not one of those bellman at the door types, but it was perfect. It is located o block from the White House which was a joy to walk around the White House, and Lafayette Park and the Monument grounds every evening after dinner. Ambiance galore and awe inspiring.

We stayed at AKA White House as part of a family east coast vacation. There were 5 of us - 5 big adults. This accommodation is actually a lovely 2 bedroom 2-bath apartment which was a lot more enjoyable for 5 nights that hotel rooms would have been. It's a great location - the White House is right out the door, 2 blocks away. The interior decor is modern, restful, and stylish. All areas of the hotel are immaculately clean. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to save on meals. There is a comfortable living room with flat screen tv, and also flat screens in both bedrooms. We benefited from the washer and dryer to get ready for the next leg of the trip. The front desk staff was unfailingly helpful and pleasant. Light continental breakfast is served in the pleasant lounge on the first floor. The metro stop is just 5 minutes away. The only small negatives I saw is that the staff in the breakfast room does not seem to have the same great customer service attitude as the front desk - kind of sullen and slow, standing and watching as items ran low and were used up before reluctantly replenishing. . Also the hotel is in a business district; we felt completely safe, but stores and restaurants are not plentiful - although they are there. Unfortunately, the deli on the first floor on the hotel, Heidi's, did not seem that good in our opinion. Overall, tho, we loved it and would definitely stay there again.

Our stay from July 3-6 in AKA White House was disappointing overall and it put a real damper on our first visit to the capital. We booked a 2-bedroom suite online as the website sold it really well – spacious, contemporary, luxury, attentive service. In actual fact, there are many good things going for this property – close enough to shopping, dining and public transport, decor was pleasing – but what left a really distinctive and lasting memory was the general indifference on the part of the staff. They were really into themselves and not really friendly or interested if we found our stay satisfying. Mostly, they seemed more intent on informing guests what the property did not provide rather than what they could actually do to make guests’ stay enjoyable.

Prior to check-in, our request for a change to reservation was not responded to even though the general manager subsequently admitted that the email was received (but did not explain why they failed to respond). A simple request for a rollaway bed was badly handled with a rude reply (and subsequently not delivered), a question on how to get to Embassy Row was met with an indifferent “take a cab” and then we later learnt that there was a public bus that could take directly there. Complimentary daily continental breakfast, advertised on the website, was not served over weekends – it would have been nice if the staff had informed us of this upon check-in or if the website had provided accurate information.

While each suite has a kitchenette, there are no coffee and tea supplies. There are no shower caps or Kleenex in the bathrooms. Even motels provide these basic supplies. Our room was not cleaned throughout the three nights we stayed at AKA. Overall, it was really disappointing and put a real damper on our visit to Washington, DC. It seemed to us that the AKA staff believe their job is just to provide the basics: check-in, hand out keys, check out and process payments. That’s fine if AKA advertises itself as a rental unit, but by positioning themselves as an extended-stay property that offers hotel services - that’s where they certainly failed to deliver.

It has been almost a year since my last visit to this hotel. My husband was going for business to DC for a one month stay, so our 5 year old son and I went with him. This hotel is ideally for people staying at least 1 month, so it is not so easy to find a room available any time you want to go, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. They have everything you need for a long stay in the room, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and all up to date full kitchen even with an oven. I remember even baking cake in the room. On 2008 there were more kitchen equipments the kitchen, so if you are planing to cook, check the kitchen when you arrive, and ask for the missing things. They serve coffee and some bakeries along with some cereals and fruits, which is included in the price, but if you are looking for more, you should definitely stay at Washington Suites Georgetown, which has much friendlier staff, at both at front desk and breakfast room. At this place only friendly staff that we could find was there only for the night shift. And In the mornings don't dare to ask any help of the front desk, they would turn you down. The rooms and the location is the highlight of this complex. And I believe nor other place can beat this. Metro is on the Corner, on the other corner there is a Starbucks. Also a Mcdonalds nearby. And of course you can walk to the White House. As other reviewers mentioned there is no Grocery store near by, but I used to take the Red Line from Farragut North Metro to Friend Ship Heights, where there was a great Giant Supermarket, as well as some good restaurants like Cheesecake Factory. Also when you walk one block 32-34-36 busses, and one more block to 'circulator' (http://www.dccirculator.com/) you could go to Georgetown, and if you get out of the bus just across Washington Suites Georgetown, there is a 'Trader Joe's' where you can shop for groceries. If you are staying in DC more than a few weeks, I would recommend you to check out http://www.zipcar.com/ . I could say zipcar saved our life. In one of our stays they put us in a room which was on the second floor, looking at the back side, While we were sleeping, at 5 am we woke up with a noise, and couldn't go back to sleep. It was because of the 'Trash truck' picking up trash, We were lucky they could find another room the next day, so we could move.

Just checked in 24 hours ago for a two week stay. Every request I have made of the staff has been responded to with a NO. How can a hotel that is for extended stays have no capability of scanning and email ing a pdf of a document? What is the point of having fitness equipment if most of it does not turn on?

Modern and sleek in décor. Washing machine came in handy. I liked it that if any visitor came and wanted to use washroom, there was a separate half washroom and they didn’t have to enter the main one through the bedroom. Housekeeping service once a week was not enough. Not much dining options nearby. However, the concierge recommended Café Asia, it’s now one of my favorite places to eat, try it. They do not accept cash as payment, which I found a bit inconvenient.

I just got back from another work related trip. This time I was lucky enough to get into the AKA White House which is right by where we meet. It's just like being in a furnished 1 or 2 bedroom apartment ! All the conveniences of home are there. The staff is great & always make you feel welcome. It's very centrally located 2 blocks from the White House.Traffic noise which is an issue in most DC hotels isn't here because the living room not the bedroom gets that. Plus you get high speed wireless internet to boot! Parking if you need it is pricey but that's the case ANYWHERE in DC.

This is always the first place I check when we have meetings at our national office. I recommend the AKA VERY highly if you need to stay in DC for business or pleasure
