“This museum half under construction for now”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

This museum has artifacts about the presidents and first ladies - not an extensive collection, but good. If you end up needing lunch - the Stars and Stripes cafe downstairs doesn't look like much but the food is fabulous ! Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches, beautiful onion rings, cobblers and every kind of American comfort food you could ask for. It's a little pricey but the museum is free so don't sweat it too much. If the line is long, don't worry, they move folks through with great speed.

“Falling down the stairs”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

By the time we reached the Art Museum I must admit we had "Museum Legs" just outright tired. When climbing the steps to the upper level my show caught on the lip of the upper step and down I fell like a sack of potatoes. Bruised and embarrassed. My opinion is the steps are poorly designed, but irregardless if it was my fault I'd suggest being careful.

The art is very lovely. I had no idea the only Leonardo painting in the US is located here....but good luck getting a close view as it is swarmed with visitors, most snapping pictures. I had believed it was hard on the art to be exposed to all the flash lights but none of the staff said no photos.

Overall, I got my money's worth (free) and now I know why our taxes are so high! It was worth it though.

“Excellent”

We especially liked the modern American art, which is comprehensive and very well displayed. Even if you don't think you like contemporary art, you will enjoy this.

Don't miss the African Art Garden behind the Smithsonian Castle. It is beautiful and great place to see the Cherry Blossoms!

“Interesting Collection of Modern Art”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

This museum is about 4 blocks away from the Mall and is paired up with the Portrait Gallery. It is actually in the old patent building and they have done a nice job preserving the offices. We went specifically to look at the modern art collection which was most interesting and worth a visit. They also had a small collection of patent models that were submitted long ago. I don't know if that is there all the time, but it was great. The ideas were so ridiculous. There is a really lovely covered central courtyard between the buildings.
