“A DUMP. Deserves ZERO rating. Will NEVER go there again.”
Reviewed April 5, 2010

Service was horrible. We didn't even know if there was a waitress cuz only 1 other party in the place who still had their menus & we waited 15 mins before she finally showed up. Our food took over an hour (only burgers & crab cake sandwiches. It took the waitress 20 mins after we ordered to tell us they were out of fish & hush puppies) Plastic tablecloths were torn in several places. Wood bench felt sticky. Walls were filthy. Bathroom had holes in the walls, missing all lights but one dim one in the stall so the sink was lit by a single candle, maybe to hide the grime? The place stunk like a bar but outside deck was not an option cuz the place is right next to a dusty empty lot with remains of a demo-ed building & on a busy street. I am one to appreciate a "dive" with great food or character/atmosphere. This place is not even close. Burgers were dry, crab cakes mostly filler. All I wanted to do was take a shower when I left there. ICK!!

“Crab eating in all its glory”
Reviewed October 13, 2009

If you want an authentic shell hammerin and bibbin' time eating crabs, this is it. I've been here 3 times, and I've never been able to score the all-you-can-eat crabs--I guess I need to get there sooner. I've been on a date, friends and even the family from out of town (who are all raised on a farm and are big time meat eaters). Everyone had a blast!

Fork out some dough, as expected, but the authenticity of the brown paper tablecloths and buckets for dumping shells make it all worth while.

And don't count all those fresheners in the bathroom. (hint: when you enter the bathroom, look up)

“Worth the trip if you like crabs”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

We rode the Metro up after a day at the Smithsonian. It is a bit of a ride on the Red Line but worth it. We ordered one dozen crabs for two adults and a child and it was more than enough. It was a little pricey (over $100 with a pitcher of beer and a Sprite) but cracking the crabs was entertainment in and of itself! The staff was friendly if not a little harried. It is nothing fancy but a good place for crabs.

“Great place”
Reviewed June 2, 2009

I hadn't had real steamed crabs in a long time, and they're not easy to find, even in DC. Dancing Crab restaurant is out of the way (almost to the Maryland border), but worth the trip.
It's a simple restaurant with paper on the table, wooden mallets, and plastic bibs, exactly the right kind of place for bust-em-open-yourself crabs and lobsters and shrimp. They also serve other seafood, but who would want that when crabs and lobsters are available?
Wait staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful, and happy to show you the best ways to attack your dinner.
When we were there, they had extra-large crabs available, which I gather is unusual. They have a half-dozen-minimum policy for crabs, but I sweet-talked them into selling me three (one person's worth), because my wife wanted lobster. The extra-large crabs were about $24 for three. Side dishes (hush puppies, french fries, etc.) are very good and served in a portion big enough to share with your friends.
They have some tables on their porch, which was very pleasant when we were there.
