I have stayed at this hotel several times. First when it was a Doubletree and most recently as the newly renovated Residence Inn Marriott ( Oct 23 - 25, 2013).
Each mini suite has a full kitchen, living area, and separate bedroom/bathroom. The full kitchen is great for families or single travelers. Comes with a standard size fridge, stove, microwave, and dishwasher plus plenty of pots, pans, dishes etc. to cook a meal. The living area and bedroom each have a decent size television. Since the Mariott took over ownership, the furnishings in the living area and bedroom are all new.
The bathrooms have been refurbished with new vanity and mirror, and new glass enclosed shower stalls. No bathtub. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer and clothes iron.
The Marriott has made some changes to this hotel for the better. I liked the new lobby area, which now has a nice reception / siting area with public access to a computer. They also installed a new buffet area where the Marriott offers free complimentary breakfast and afternoon social hour. The breakfast offerings included coffee, juices, cereals, bagels, pastries, fruit, yogurt parfait, and hot meats, scrambled eggs, and potatoes. Breakfast begins at 6 am. When I went down at 730 am there was still plenty of choices, however, the eggs were cold and the juice machine was empty. The social hour offers appetizers and warm cookies. On our visit sliders were on the menu.
For us, the location of this hotel is perfect. It is located in a quaint neighborhood just around the corner from the Foggy Bottom Metro and George Washington University. We have walked to the Lincoln Memorial and Georgetown from the hotel, each about a 10-15 minute walk.
Other amenities include a workout room and a pool, however, I did not use either.
The staff we encountered were very friendly and efficient.
The only cons were we arrived at a time when the elevators were being upgraded, and the cold eggs. Only one elevator was operational and it was very slow. We opted to use the stairs on all occasions we did not have suitcases.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to DC visitors. Marriott did a nice job upgrading the facilities and offer nice amenities at a fair price.
