Went there for a drink to see the "proposal booth", a small booth by the front door that Jack Kennedy used to inhabit. It is claimed that he proposed to Jackie in the booth. Drinks pricey as expected. Many people dining.

We chose to eat at this establishment because of its sidewalk seating; we were there on a beautiful sunny Sunday and enjoyed our time outside people watching.
The service was great. Our waiter was extremely attentive and the support staff was ever present. We found the menu to be limited, especially for the vegetarian in our group. Food taste was average. Food quality was good.

This unpretentious place has good stories because it is a place where several presidents escaped to have a steak or crab cake. The menu is not long, but it is balanced. Fish, steaks, pasta, sandwiches, starters . . . Nothing pretentious. Our table enjoyed shrimp with pasta, shepherd's pie, crab cakes, fish and chops, and a hot brown. All got praise. Our server was terrific. Nice place to relax with friends. Prices are dC-reasonable.

In the heart of Georgetown, Martin's Tavern is a D.C. institution. Many booths have famous stories, including the booth where JFK proposed to Jackie. We stopped due to the history rather than for food ratings. My husband had the prime rib - great portion and good quality meat. I had the crab cakes - not jumbo lump crab, but not just filler either - with a baked potato. Food was good, but fairly plain and bland. Overall, we had a good meal and enjoyed the historic bar atmosphere - but I would not go again. I think there are better restaurants in the area for the money.

Martin's Tavern was recommended to us by friends who had eaten there in the past. For us there was nothing special about it.

Nothing wrong with the food, apart from being warm rather than hot. We had a very disinterested waiter who was monosybillic, got the bill wrong, processed it through the credit card system and then came back to start all over again with the proper amount.

OK, it has historic interest with a booth occupied by Richard Nixon, and the booth where JFK proposed to Jackie. (But we thought someone with JFK's money would have chosen something more upmarket!). Decor is interesting, rather like an English pub, but to me, the place lacked atmosphere.

Would I go back? Probably not..
