I was in D.C. last weekend and opted not to join my travel companions at a Nats game because I was tired of being around crowds after a day at the museums and monuments. I asked one of the bellmen at the hotel to recommend a casual place with good food and he directed me to Bistro Bis just around the corner from my hotel. The dining room was not crowded at all, which was a bit of a surprise on a Saturday night, and even more of a surprise when my food arrived. The beet salad was very refreshing on a muggy D.C. summer evening. My entree, seared pork belly, was fantastic. I wanted the crusty, crunchy sear on the outside of the fat layer but it was difficult to cut into with a regular knife. The attentive waiter noticed me struggling and brought a steak knife. Okay, so pork belly isn't the lightest dish to down after an 88 degree day outside, but I devoured it. That juicy, tender, little piggy made the meal. No comments on dessert because I was too full to try any. I should also note that this was an expensive meal but not out of line with restaurants of its caliber.

Pretty authentic food. I had an all-organ meat meal and it was too good. Damn them for offering the stuff!

Love the food! They have a phenomenal Onion Soup. The Beef Bourguignon is tenderly delicious. For seafood lovers, try the Bourride de Lotte (monkfish stew). It will leave you wanting more. And finally for dessert, must try Mille- Feuille Au Fraise (puf pastry with strawberries). Yum!!!
