I heard about this place from several people and before i flew in to Washington made a reservation for 5.
What a disappointment !!!!
The service was bad to say the least and without asking was told by the server that she was alone serving outside and we would need to wait as she could not serve everyone
Then the food was miserable from the soggy kibbieh to the over cooked lamb to the disgusting mixed screwers.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We came here on a Sunday night for Restaurant week and it was amazing! It was SO much food. There were 5 courses offered and we were full by the 3rd course! Everything was delicious though! We may go here again while we are still in town. The Adana kebobs were my favorite menu item!

I was not happy when we arrived at Zaytinya. We had made our reservation at least 4 weeks in advance and we were 5 minutes early. When we arrived, the front reception area was mobbed with people. And the restaurant itself was completely full. That's called Overbooked. We were eventually seated 25 minutes after we arrived. Yes, it was Restaurant Week and yes there was a monster concert at The Verizon Center (which is one block way), but every restaurant knows (or should know) how many people they can serve in an hour and restaurants that overbook are not keeping customer service as a priority. The person who runs the front of the house needs to get their numbers in order. They are either taking too many reservations or too many walk-up customers - or both.Once we were seated, however, everything, thank God, got better. The room was still overcrowded, but we had two waiters, and they were both excellent. Zaytinya specializes in small plates, so portion size is small but it gives the diner a chance to taste lots of different things. We ordered the 5-course Restaurant Week dinner menu and everything we ordered was excellent, except for one chicken thigh orzo dish I was not crazy about. Everything else was great. The hit of the meal was a roasted Shrimp served in butter, shallots and dill - simple but delicious. I recommend visiting on a non-crazy night. The room is the opposite of intimate (enormous and tall ceilings) so if you are looking for intimate. this is not your place.

If you are REALLY hungry, this wonderful restaurant is a good choice for Restaurant Week. They don’t have everything on the menu, but still a great selection. The two of us opted for the $35 menu and we ended up being uncomfortably full and still sent food back. As always, the food is prepared spectacularly and the service is consistently the best in DC. This is just a superb place to eat, if you are the least bit adventuresome. You’ll find dishes here that are unique in the city and appeal to a wide variety of tastes—meat eaters and vegetarians had equal opportunity for exceptional food.
Come VERY hungry or plan on sharing ONE restaurant week menu, which is want we should have done.
This remains our favorite place to eat in DC—above all other choices.

My husband and I went with another couple. We shared 5 small plates recommended by the waitress Tia. Then we shared 2 desserts she suggested. It was all wonderful and we were shocked that the bill was so reasonable. Can't wait to go back!!
