Well, where does one begin? First, I am stunned by all the favorable reviews on this site telling me that unfortunately a lot of people have low standards when it comes to Italian food. But we live in America and what do most Americans know about these things. The average American thinks a Pappa Johns pizza is the real done. Piccolo restaurant is simply not that good. Service was fine, manager or owner was congenial, waitress was OK, but food was substandard. Far many better choices in DC for Italian fod. Salad was not how it was described on the menu, and their house special pasta, Pasta Il Picolo, or something like that, was just your average run of the mill Bolognese sauce. My wife's agnolotti dish was swimming in oil. She had to pour most of it into her bread dish. On our next trip to DC we will look elsewhere for Italian food.

We were looking for an upscale restaurant for a quiet dinner with authentic Italian cuisine and boy were we blown away! We made reservations through OpenTable and arrived on time. We were met at the door by two staff members who opened the double doors for us as we entered. We were immediately seated at a quiet table and treated to an exquisite serving of succulent bread with an oil and cheese mixture while we reviewed the extensive menu.

We ordered a Bruscheta with lump crab meat as an appetizer, which was astounding! For an entree, we had a calamari over linguine and a mushroom ravioli. Both were delicious. The calamari was far and away the most delicious and tender calamari I've ever had! But even more impressive than the magnificent food was the service! The servers all worked as a team, completely unobtrusive but constantly attentive to our every need. They were engaging and focused on keeping our glasses full and our palates satisfied. This kind of service and superb food is easily worth twice what we paid. Surprisingly, the entire meal with two glasses of wine was only $70 +tip.

I cannot overstate how wonderful an experience this restaurant was! Book with absolute confidence that you are in for a genuine treat!

The food and service were fantastic! A bit crowded but that's expected for a restaurant in Georgetown.

We were looking for a good restaurant in or near Georgetown. We intended upscale (we checked out the Bourbon at the Four Seasons Hotel but they weren't serving dinner until 18:30 and we wanted to eat early). We were on our way to Milano in G-town but then chanced upon some restaurants on 31st. We checked out the menu at R. Piccolo and found it to be to our liking. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming and cozy interior as well as the attentive staff and service. We also enjoyed the food and wine. I had a crab/pesto pasta dish and my husband a ravioli (forgot the filling name). Both were great. We also had dessert which was equally good. It's not 5-star by any stretch but it is a great value for the price. If you are looking for almost gourmet, a VERY REASONABLE price, great service and a quaint setting, then try Piccolo...you will not be disappointed! Also, the location is great. In the heart of Georgetown just off M Street.
