Description: The restaurant of choice of many distinguished diners and restaurant critics, Ristorante La Perla of Washington, located near Georgetown at the tail-end of the historic Pennsylvania Avenue, takes its diners on a culinary journey through Italy with elegant decor surpassed only by authentic mouth-watering Italian masterpiece cuisine. During Lunch and Dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while prime meats, poultry, seafood and vegetables roast to treat diners to a little bit of heaven, with a long lasting memory for your taste buds, thanks to the vision of famous chef Vittorio Testa, who has kept alive the Italian culinary tradition for over three decades. Chef-Owner Vittorio Testa will make you feel like you're dining in his house. The waiters exceed expectations, and the space is garnished with painted tiles and Venetian glass to make every dining occasion a memorable one. There's also Private dining and Outdoor seating when the weather permits.

I came in early at about five pm for dinner after a transatlantic flight. I was alone in the restaurant, and eight waiters were trying hard to keep themselves busy. While the dishes on the menu do not seem expensive, you might be surprised when seeing the final check. As mentioned in previous reports, this restaurant is too expensive.
The location is excellent. The interior decoration probably reflects what Americans think about Italian style, for my taste it is a little bit cliché. Background music ranges from opera to modern music, while I would have expected traditional Italian music, given the decor.
Service was correct, although a little 'auto-pilot'. No personal interest, no conversation, not even about the weather. As to the wine, surprising that they only had chianti: no montepulciano, brunello, sangiovese... The merlot I ordered was more or less acceptable for its price.
Finally, the food. I took the piatto di mastro geppetto: seafood with delicious scallops, shrimps and slightly overcooked mussles. Too salty and a tomato sauce that seemed to come right out of a can. I had expected a palet of rich and varied tastes ...
All by all, a decent restaurant, but not for me ...

While the restaurant was pretty expensive, the food was very good and the service was excellent. I had Osso Buco with Risotto and would highly recommend it while my wife had ravioli which was very nice (though pretty expensive). Service was among the best that I have ever seen with skilled and friendly staff. This is an old style Italian restaurant with white linens. I would strongly recommend it if you are looking for a very nice Italian dinner, though this might not be the place you would choose for a less casual family dinner.

As a resident of Washington, I have had the great pleasure of dining at La Perla on many occasions. It is truly an exceptional restaurant and the quality of food and service is outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for an authentic Italian dining experience while in the D.C. area.

Fantastic service beaten only by the incredible food and the chef-owner, VIttorio, who stops by your table to ensure all is well - no matter how busy it is. The seasonings are delicate, the cuisine is just cutting-edge enough but still very Italian. I LOVE this PLACE!
