Description: It was here in Chinatown that the Matchbox story began. This narrow, rectangular building was three stories tall, fifteen feet wide, and looked like a matchbox. It stood vacant for so long, a tree grew inside of it, like kindling waiting to start a new fire. Walk past the torch that lights our front door, come in and smell the hot, crackling fire from two brick ovens. Have a seat inside, where we built the reclaimed timber and steel finishes with our own hands, or relax in the sunny atrium that was once an alleyway. Wherever you choose, there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers. Touch vintage matchboxes from our personal collections, inset on every table, or ask for a bottle of our Matchbox Blend, made with love and featuring that spunky tree that started it all. We’re Chinatown neighborhood gathering place for fun, upscale casual dining, with local, award-winning beers, broad spectrum wines, and signature cocktails you won’t find anywhere else.

Well, my spouse and I were looking to find this restaurant that was recommended to us by our veterinian. He knows Washington and highly recommend this Wood-fired baked Pizza.

We were happy to find it, not in little italy but Chinatown!

Restaurant is very trendy, lounge music accompanied by the noise of happy customers.

Appetizers ranging from 10$ to 18$ for a mini-trio composed of 2 pan-seared scallops/ 2 mini crab cakes and 2 bun-less mini burgers. All servers were unanimously indicating that their mini-burgers platter was a must: Hand-pattied certified angus beef/ toasted brioche/ pickles/ a mountain of onion straws/ top with a choice of either gouda, mozzarella or gorgonzola (3.6.9 for 10/18/23$)

Locals met at the door were are all saying that this place serves the best oven-cooked pizza in Washington,12 select choices.

We ordered a selection of 6 mini-burgers topped with 2.2.2 choices of cheeses and for our main course the "waiter's choice" Pizza: half Chicken Pesto and Half Salami topped with Chipolte sauce

Well let me tell you that these mini-burgers are to die for, especially the straw onions!!!

For the entree, after endulging in those wonderful burgers, I would recommend going for the smaller size Pizza since our large one was a "bit" to much to handle

So unless you are really hungry order the small. Doing so won't cut you short of the taste only the calories, hihihi!

Finally, restaurant mood is very good. Patio is very comfortablely set between two buildings. Excellent service by "Phil" ( 8 years at the Matchbox, Kudo Phil!)

Overall, excellent

A friend and I went here on her own recommendation. She had been here before.

We both ordered the same pizza, Prosciutto & Fig - it was so delicious. Just the right blend of salty and sweet! Nice thin crust!

I'll definitely be back!

Had a business dinner here with a co-worker and a client. We ordered a large pizza and the waitress informed us we could split the pie with two choices. We did half Spicy Meatball and half Coppa Italian Ham & Arugula. Both halves were as good of pizza as I've had. Brick oven and thin, the flavors were awesome. We also ordered the angus mini burgers which were buried in onion straws. Good, but not great. Client ordered salmon with sides of kale and brussel sprouts. Sprouts were as good as I've ever had. Tried one of the local beers which was also very good. Would eat here often if I lived in the area.
