My wife and I are Top-Chef junkies and take every opportunity to visit a celebrity chef restaurant. We have eaten in Mike Isabella's other two restaurants (Bandolero & Graffiato) several times - well Graffiato not Bandolero. While we initially went for the nostalgia of a top-chef owner we have returned to Graffiato for the great food.
That being said, we went to Kapnos for the experience. We are not well versed in Greek cuisine, so we had the tasting menue. There were a couple knock-out dishes, and some that fell flat. I say that they fell flat because of the seasoning. We felt that many of the dishes had too much dill and capers, we felt that it was in every dish possible. Now is that true for all greek cuisine or just this interpretation? I do not know. I will say that the grilled whole branzino, was AMAZING! I am not a fan of whole fish, but this was out of your mind good! I have only had one other grilled whole fish that was better, and that was in Okinawa, Japan when a buddy went spear fishing and brought up some type of fishy goodness and we ate it immedatelly on the beach.
We did like the watermelon thing -
the desserts were ok.
Overall - I dont think we would come back to this place, mainly because it is farther out than we normally drive to for a meal.
There is alot of space if you would like to host a big table for a party of some sorts.
Eventhough, I did not like some of the dishes as much, I still reccomend it to anyone - Mike Isabella was either the head chef at Zytanya so he does know his way around the med!
