There is a reason there is always a line here. Everything is delicious. I recommend the unporked Elvis cupcake. Plus the coffee is made perfectly. I highly suggest you make a trip here if you are anywhere near DC. You won't regret it.

We went to Georgetown for the weekend and planned on hitting up a famous cupcake place, but arrived and saw the line to be at least 5 feet long outside and it didn't look like it was moving.

After talking to a few locals working at some shops we went to, they told us to seek out Baked and Wired; that is was wayyy better than the more famous cupcake places, that the cupcakes are 'as big as muffins', and that 'all the students go there-that tells you something.'

It's hidden in plain view down Thomas Jefferson a ways, and it was also semi-crowded but with students. This place did not disappoint. They had at least 8 kinds of cupcakes-and not your average flavors. The special was a "Car Bomb" cupcake for St. Paddy's day that had a Jameson filling with Bailey's buttercream icing (it was AMAZING) and there was the "Flap Jack" with maple syrup icing and caramelized bacon bits on top.

They also had a dizzying array of baked goods like pies, bars, and 'pop tarts'. There were so many options I could barley think, but it was well worth going off the beaten path to visit this gem. The cupcakes are really as big as muffins, and were moist and delicious.

This is yet another time where I have found that it pays to trust the locals!

We had read so much about Baked and Wired in Washington DC that we were determined to try it next time we were in the area. We got there early in the morning in time for breakfast and we very much looked forward to the baked goods and the coffee that were so famous. We tried the carrot cake and the chocolate cupcakes, both were very good. We also got the zucchini bread, banana bread, raspberry bar, doughnut cupcake and the Hippie Crack granola. All were very good. The only thing we were disappointed in was the latte, we had heard a lot about the coffees and the lattes and we were not impressed. They are beautifully presented and they did an excellent job with the foam and the leaf design, but the taste was not the best we have had.
