“Great little restaurant”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

I had a coupon from Entertainment.com that gave me a two-for-the-price-of-one entree. I visit DC regularly but had never tried this restaurant before. It is located at the back of the deli and sweets store. Small, intimate and very good German food. My friend and I enjoyed the meal and the ambiance.

“Friendly Waitress, Great Food, Clean, No Street Noise”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Stumbled on Café Mozart after endless walking as tourists. Did not know what to expect as you walked through the store to the restaurant in rear. We are used to Minneapolis clean and found the restaurant met that level. No traffic noise. Very tasty German fare. Friendly waitress. Was so good the first time that we came back two days later during our trip. German food was the last cuisine we expected to eat in D.C. Travel can have good surprises.

“Fun and Unique”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Glad we stumbled on this place. I've never had German food before and now I love it. It was so good. Prices were great, very hard to find becuase when you walk in you think its just a bakery, but make your way to the back and your in. The Deserts that were offered were great choices but the reason why I didn't give a full 5 star is due to the deserts, as pretty as they were, taste was a little bland. But I will say we ate here twice. Good find!

“Good home style cooking, great beer and excellent cake!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

If you are looking for a no-frills but good solid homey german food, then this is your place. Large assortment of sausages, good schnitzels, flavourful potato pancakes (served with apple sauce and sour cream), and really well prepared potato salad. Beers come in all shapes and tastes...they even can serve it in a huge tankard (see pic). But highlight for me were the desserts: wonderful apple strudel and out of this world cakes...light and not too sweet. My Black Forest cake was outstanding. They are located in an area full of offices so it has lunch specials for the working crowd and open for dinner. You have to walk through their deli to get to the dark and old-fashioned restaurant in the back which sometimes features a person playing the piano. Maybe worth stopping in the deli to pick up some fun German products on the way out (gooseberries in syrup, chocolate covered marzipan). Nice cozy place for a quiet dinner out.

“Authentic German food, great for families, excellent staff”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

A great place for dinner in downtown DC without too much stuffiness or food-court atmosphere - things that are quite common in DC dining.

Food was very good, authentic, and most items made on-site with traditional recipes. Live piano music is a nice added touch to a great meal. Staff are super-friendly and extremely helpful. Lots of options for beers - including pitchers! - to try out various German options. If there is a downside it is that entree size varies quite a bit - so if you're looking for a large meal, be sure to ask how much you get on the plate....I wasn't full by mine, so picked some from family members.

The kids' menu is a great value and also very authentic....a crowd-pleaser of a meal, to be sure!
