“Best Italian in the District”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

Not heavy normal Italian, very creative. Far and above the best service you've experienced. These guys are true professionals. I go each time I'm in D.C.

“Gourmet Italian, not red-sauce covered...”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

This is a quality restaurant, not a chain, as is the case for most quality D.C. restaurants it can be expensive. However, the food, service and wine justify the prices. If you want large quantities of tomato covered pasta you are in the wrong place. A superb kitchen, with master Chefs Massimo and Ricardo, oversees the delicate preparation of tasty and tasteful dishes which one may order a la carte or as part of a tasting menu. The wine list is excellent and allows selection of some wines by the glass. The negative reviews one can find are basically based upon prior experience with trattorias and pizzerias, Tosca is a foodie's restaurant. The servers are experienced and attentive, guided by the talented maître d' Tommaso; often the owner Paolo is there to make the guests as welcome as possible. We have been coming to Tosca for a long time and cannot speak too highly of it.

“Not Quite Up to Par”
Reviewed May 26, 2014

We've been many times--our favorite Italian restaurant in DC. This visit was mildly disappointing. We did the pre-theater menu. My wife had the Insalata di Radicchio, which was excellent, although she get one stale walnut. I had the Cacio e Pepe, which was quite disappointing. There was no pepper taste whatsoever, and the pasta was way overcooked. We both had the Pappardelle as our main course, even though it's on the appetizer list. Excellent flavor, but, once again, the pasta was not al dente, it was overcooked--inexcusable for a first-class Italian restaurant. For dessert, we both had the Tortino al Cioccolato, which was superb. The warm chocolate center was intensely chocolaty. We had a nice wine--Elena Walch Pinot Grigio. Not the usual light PG, but more full-bodied like a chardonnay.

“A Favorite”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

This is one of my favorites. It is excellent in all respects -- delicious food, very good service, an extensive wine list. I especially like that the tables are far enough apart and the acoustics are such that you can have a conversation with dinner companions without speaking loudly or straining to hear. The pasta is superb -- delicate with lovely fresh flavors. Every night the restaurant has a selection of fresh fish that is prepared simply and served with vegetables -- a welcome treat for business travelers. The only place for improvement is firmer seating for better back support.
