“The freshest, local ingredients!”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

We were visiting Washington, DC, this fall and stayed in the business district. It was a short walk to Corduroy on Ninth Street, NW, and from the street seemed like a quaint, relaxing place for dinner. Unfortunately, we had not made reservations but were accommodated by seating us in the bar. The bartender and assistant were very well versed on the menu and we were not disappointed with our seating choices. There was a rather large crown in the bar waiting on a table that were quite boisterous but upon receiving our salads and entrees, we no longer paid any attention to the other patrons. Our food was extremely tasty and fresh! the salad of beet, baby carrots, and leeks had just a hint of earthiness and the Barnegat scallops with Anson Mills Antebellum Grits were absolutely perfect. The portions were very generous but allowed my husband to still enjoy dessert. Well worth the walk and will definitely return again in order to enjoy the actual ambiance of the restaurant.

“Great Dining Experience”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

This was our first experience at this restaurant. We really did not know anything about it other than a recommendation from a friend. What a pleasant surprise! We went for our anniversary and everything was perfect. The food was delicious and the service was superior! We had the special tasting menu. Each course was a small plate of something delicious with a creative presentation. We had let them know that it was our anniversary and they even decorated the plate with "Happy Anniversary."

We can't wait to go back to Corduroy again.

“Fantastic meal”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

I had dinner here as part of a business group while attending a conference in Washington and was completely wowed by the experience. As others have said, the restaurant isn't that easy to locate - very small sign - but it's definitely worth finding. It was hard to decide what to order as most items on the menu sounded really interesting. Fortunately our very competent waiter knew the menu well, so he was able to offer suggestions. Based on his recommendations, I chose the tuna tartare for my first course and the salmon for my main course. Both were creatively prepared and absolutely delicious. My host selected an excellent Oregon pinot noir, which went beautifully with my choices.

“American Classics, Done Right”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Don't let the exterior fool you. This is a very good restaurant.

Most of the dishes are relatively simple, but the preparation is as good as you will find anywhere. For me, that is what earns Corduroy an "excellent" rating. They achieve excellence, not by going over the top, but by sticking to basics and doing it as well as can be done, using the best ingredients, and local sourcing when possible.

October's heirloom tomato salad was probably the best fresh tomato dish I've ever had in a restaurant. Simply delicious, and again, not overdone, but just right.

Great spot.
