The waiter was knowledgable, courteous and sensitive to our questions. The food was exquisitely presented and timed to our needs, we never felt pressured to finish a course or order more wines. The champagne and wines (we chose French of course) were entirely suitable and easily matched to the meal chosen.

Staff service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door until we left. There was so much to choose from on the menu, making your decision extremely hard. Food was fabulous as it just melted away in your mouth. A great night out celebrating our birthdays.

My husband & I visited DC last summer and we have been dreaming about dinner at Marcel's ever since. We just returned and it exceeded our already high expectations. We love Foie Gras and they prepare it amazingly. This year's preparation was served expertly seared with crispy thin waffles & blueberry puree. The menu at Marcel's is served in small courses. You can order one per category or several from the same category. I had heirloom tomatoes with herbed goat cheese, the Foie Gras, Beef Filet on a puddle of mash potatoes, a "cheesecake" with blue cheese & blackberry, a crunchy hazelnut donut with mango sorbet. Jonathan was our head waiter and he was excellent! We decided to return the following night for more Foie Gras. We were warmly greeted with a hug & an excellent table. Our only regret is that Marcel's is not nearby... We dream of next time...

I took my fiancé here for her birthday dinner. We had the 3 course dinner menu and each of the courses were equally amazing. We had tickets to watch the Phantom of the Opera at the Kennedy Center so they sent a complimentary black car. After the show Marcel's had a black car waiting to take us back to our car.

We went to Marcel's based on various reviews and found that it lived up to everything we read! The menu is set up in "courses" where you select from seven different groupings according to your particular tastes. They price the meals by the number of courses selected -- from four to seven. After reviewing the offerings we settled on five. We also added wine pairings which were not offered on the menu but when I enquired they said they did have them.

Our courses were fish, fish, meat, cheese/fois gras, dessert. From the first course to the last, everything was perfect. The wines were well selected -- all French since this is a French restaurant. Our biggest concern at the beginning was whether the portion sizes would be reasonably small for so many courses or, as we've experienced many times, much too large. We need not have worried -- the portions were perfectly sized; so that when we left the restaurant we did not feel we had over eaten. The same can be said about the wines. The pours were between one and a half to two ounces each which was just enough to savor with the food without having to worry about designated drivers.

The chef was very creative with the food combinations. For example I had a tuna tartar which was placed upon mango. The flavors worked wonderfully well. And every course was equally as exciting.

Service here was equally superb. We had roughly six different people looking after us at all times but they were never intrusive.

The restaurant was relatively large but noise levels were never a problem and we could talk comfortably.

While not inexpensive the quality of food, service, and ambience more than justified the four hundred dollar cost before tip. The wine pairings (included in the $400.00) were $55.00 each, considerably below prices I've seen in many other major restaurants that were not nearly as good as this one.

One proviso: they expect the gentlemen to wear jackets. It being summer, they weren't quite as stringent about this rule but most men there were appropriately dressed.

It was a flawless evening and I will definitely go back the next time I'm in DC.
