My wife and I love this place, and so do many of our friends. The service is impecable, just terrific, however it can on occasion feel almost stuffy and overbearing. The wine steward, Jonathan, is a scream, he is very entertaining. The food is simply outstanding, classic French dishes mixed with some Italian and other European dishes. The wine list is extensive, as you would expect, and some of the prices will take your breath away. Speaking of, the prices. Better cash in some of your stock options before saddling up the horse to come here. is it worth it? Hmmm, probablly, there's really no place else in DC that does it as well as Marcels. A great place for romantic dinners, small parties, etc. Also, come here for an early pre-theater dinner before heading over to the Kennedy Center, and they will have their driver take you in their Lincoln Town Car, and then you can taxi it back to pick up your car after the show. The bar is not the kind of place where you hang out, it's more of a pit stop while you wait for your table or your friends to arrive.

Went to Marcel's with high expectations. Left slightly disappointed. Looked lovely from outside. Nice but not great inside. Flexible menu was a good idea - you pick how many courses you want. Air conditioning is outdated, so some tables are drafty & outright chilly. Ladies should take a wrap with them just in case. Food was good but nothing outstanding there. Certainly not the best in Washington. Our service was patchy - left too long waiting for menus. First course slow to arrive, others a little too fast. Lasting impression was of a good restaurant, but one which is not as good as its staff think it is.

The atmosphere is understated and the decor is elegant. The service is exceptional and each course is presented and served in an old fashioned formal style more akin to Europe than the US. The menu offers a wide choice and the food is very very good but falls short in comparison to the best. This I say because the fare is more traditional than boldly innovative.
This restaurant offers tasting menu's of four to seven courses. You can opt for one or more items from each course. This is a great way to sample the variety of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes on offer. The price varies from $85 for the four course meal to $125 per head for the seven. The wine list is exhsustive and diverse.
Considering the overall experience, i would say that the price is a real bargain. Great place to entertain or to celebrate those special occasions.
Bookings are needed well in advance.

Marcel's is a very very nice restaurant. Very romantic. The food was good...not spectacular but good. I had the lamb wrapped in phyllo which I enjoyed and my girlfriend had the Boudin Blanc which did not go over well. We had a very tasty lobster bisque to start as well as the scallop appetizer and both were very tasty. There was a fire incident which put us outside for about 10 minutes. We when returned the replated our food and gave us a complimnetary dessert. A souffle with hazel nut ice cream...delish!! even through the mishap..the service was incredible and for that alone you should go!!

We were concerned we'd be rushed for time, but these guys have it down to a science. In an hour we had a three course meal without ever feeling rushed and they got us a car service to the theatre afterward. The food was amazing and the ambience was lovely. Go for it.
