We're fans of this place. The pork dishes can't be beat and the nachos are the best in the city. It's a little rundown but definitely has a Cuba-embargo vibe to it. Service is a little meh - they rush you a bit and aren't all that friendly. But overall it's a great break from the DC usual, and awesome food. We'll be back.

Cafe Citron serves pretty good drinks, they have happy hour specials and on Mondays they haveall you can drink cocktails for an hour for $9 (there is a specific menu from this offer, no high end spirits). The food is not too bad, I have been there for lunch several times. At night and weekends the restaurant turns into a night club with room to dance upstairs and downstairs. Keep in mind it tends to get crowded because it is overall small. Despite the space, it is still very fun and the DJ is good. There is a mix of people, but overall it feels like you are partying at someone's place - so very laid back comfortable experience.

In a city that is spoilt for music venues (including Latin bars), Citron is way up there. Located just off Dupont Circle, it is a restaurant during the day and early evening and then turns into a Latin club on weekends. The atmosphere is absolutely great, with a very mixed crowd in every respect, but all are there to have a good time. The drinks are delivered with aplomb by the swinging bar staff (the mojito is a particular favourite, with a pitcher going for $50). There is a small dance floor for those wishing to bust a few moves. The music can best be described as 'eclectic' and is not always as latino as one would want, whereas the decibels sometimes go off the scale, but that doesn't seem to bother some of the patrons strutting their stuff on the tables! Salsa!

I love this place. It has a unique style and personality, the bar area is quite lively. The restaurant is very good. I ordered Venezuelan empanadas and platanos. Now being from the Dominican Republic, I tend to be a snob when it comes to plantains. Not only was I not disappointed, these were in fact, the best plantains I have ever had, outside of my late mother's home. The empanadas were also excellent. I ordered a mojito, which according to their menu was voted the best in DC, it was good, although if they were located in New York or Miami they probably would have come in fifth or sixth place. Still in the top ten so I can wholeheartedly recommend this cafe. After ten o'clock the cafe goes into full club mode. They clear the tables to reveal a dance floor, then when you go downstairs they have a low ceiling with really cool lighting, loungechairs, another bar and a dancefloor which could be a club unto itself. There is a third dancefloor on the second floor plus a VIP area. Overall a great club, excellent food and phenomenal atmosphere, crowd tends to be in their twenties and thirties.

Me and my friends always come here. Either for the Spanish music or the food.
The Venezuelan dishes are amazing, especially the Empanadas.
Also, the whole atmosphere and the night life is pretty cool.
What kind of sucks is the small space. There's barely space to dance because it gets too crowded way too quickly. But overall, its a must go.
