Came here with friends the other night; overall, everyone enjoyed their meals and was willing to come back again sometime. In a lively location (though don't walk to or from the Eastern Market alone at night without some pepper spray) and had quick service.

I have enjoyed this restaurant many times. I would recommend getting the mofongo and of course a pitcher of sangria, sit outside and enjoy people watching on barracks row ! They have great black beans and rice. Of course I have had much better Puerto rican and Cuban food other places but I think this is the best in the DC area. You will enjoy it !

This place has very good serves and very good food! They even specially made my burrito because I don't eat onions they made the burrito with baked chicken and not their mix with the onions! April L. Was our server! She was absolutely amazing! Very helpful and so sweet!

Had the Cuban Pizza. It was ok. Service needs to be a little faster. Restaurant is good decor. Went for lunch. Price is reasonable.

The task of finding Sunday brunch in DC is a difficult one. Sure, there are plenty of options. But, how many of them are affordable? How many of them are available? How many of them are comfortable.

Boom. Banana Cafe.

Had family in town so we went out wandering to find brunch. We walked past the usual suspects, they were either absolutely packed, or dark and uninviting. Then we looked at the menus of some of the other places. Menus were decent, but there was NO ONE there. Bad sign?

Enter Banana Cafe. It was right there on the corner, nice and colorful. There were 2 open tables outside in the little patio area. Just enough to say "yes you can sit here, but don't walk farther down the road before deciding to come back."

It was legitimately good. The menu was much more diverse than most of the other brunch restaurants. This was not expensive gourmet dining, but the dishes were quality. As a table, we went through pancakes, french toast, eggs, and a breakfast burrito. Beverages were coffees all around, and the mandatory mimosa and bloody mary. Everything was great. Not fancy fine dining dishes, they were messy and saucy. BUT THEY TASTED GREAT.

I guess that description would make this place more like 4 stars, but that 5th star was gained by the staff. Just incredibly friendly, they seemed genuinely happy to have us there.

So:
Food was good
Tables were available
Was nice and down to earth so I could slather weird green hot sauce all over my plate and not be judged.
