Description: Guests savor genuine Southern Coastal Italian cuisine in a setting reminiscent of a stylish Milan boutique. Framed designer scarves adorn the walls in a creative and colorful homage to Italian fashion. The ceiling gives way to coves of hand-painted murals celebrating Italian culture, including the stunning portrait of famed opera singer, Placido Domingo, in the room named in his honor. During warm-weather months, the front wall of floor-to-ceiling windows open onto an outdoor sidewalk patio, adding a touch of Northern Italy to the Georgetown streetscape, creating one of the most sought after dining spots in Washington. Since owner Franco Nuschese blazed onto the DC dining scene over twenty years ago, Cafe Milano has been a power center for diplomats, politicians, journalists, broadcasters, lobbyists, entertainers, and all who enjoy fine Italian food and gracious attentive service.

“Great ambiance and people watching.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Fun place to dine while in DC; lots of senators and famous people alike frequenting Café Milano, so great to people watching as well as dinner. In the Georgetown area, so very busy and entertaining also tons of post dinner options. Great place to visit while in DC.

“good food but expensive - service could be much better”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Waiter was very friendly and attentive at the beginning, however, after a little while it got more crowded it was difficult to get this attention. Waited for example about 10 minutes just to get some water. Same issue at then end when we wanted to get the bill.
Food was good, which is of course expected when paying such a high price.

“Slow service.”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

My husband and I stopped by Milano for a quick bite. It didn’t turn out be that quick at all :-)
Even thou they had only 6 table eating, we had to wait forever for pizza and salads. Our server was way too slow and forgettable. On a bright note, food was great!

“Fantastic Food - Great Wine”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

We recently had a work function here. There were over 50 of us located in the "Wine Room" upstairs. We had a limited menu, but the selections were delicious.

I had the Arugula salad with the largest, thinnest slice of Parmesan I have ever seen. The lemon vinaigrette was delicious and did not drown the salad.

For the entree, I had the salmon. it was a very generous portion of salmon and nicely cooked. My wife had the beef tenderloin which was out of this world (I wish I had ordered that).

For dessert, my wife had Tiramisu and I had the gelato. The tiramisu was traditional and contained a very tasteable amount of amaretto. The gelato consisted of a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate. The two scoops were placed on a large ice cube to keep them cold.

The wines offered to us were Cafe Milano's labels. The white was a Pinot Grigio that was nice and crisp. The red offered was a blend and reminiscent of a Montepulciano and called La Pietra.

Our service was excellent. The staff took excellent care of us during the cocktail hour leading up to the dinner. Every few minutes they came by with crabcakes, cheese balls, and shrimp. The buffalo mozzarella was drizzled with a unique combination of garlic and honey. Very interesting taste combination.

Dinner was efficient, and water/wine was attended to without anyone really needing to ask for more.

The Wine Room upstairs had its own restrooms. The only logistical hiccup was the host/hostess did not inform us there was no coat room upstairs. We had to return to the front door to check our coats.

Since the food, wine and service were all top notch for our event, I would be very interested in returning for a dinner with just my wife.
