we found the service overbearing with frequent visits by our waiter and lots of questions. The food was okay but not special, and expensive for what we got. we also found the choice somewhat limited. They then turned the aircon to very cold to hurry us out.

We found this a great place for lunch. Bright and friendly interior, relaxing and invigorating atmosphere. Every dish we ordered was imaginatively conceived, superbly prepared and beautifully presented. We particularly recommend the soups, salads and the pastas. These and the sandwiches break the standard molds with subtle and unique new flavors. Service is prompt, professional and friendly. The wine list is more than adequate for lunch.

This restaurant is not for those seeking a casual dining experience. The food was very good, and the service was friendly. Great place to meet for a business dinner.

This place stands out as a fine dining restaurant that isnt a steakhouse. The menu includes a number of excellent fish dishes ( both the cod and rockfish were excellent) that had superbly flavored sauces. The ginger oysters on the starters list were great and not to be missed. Portions are small for the US ( and thus normal sized by global standards) and ideal for having 3 courses. We left well fed. Dessert was lovely and accented by a range of dessert wines ( once again unusually for DC). The room is small and intimate and the service good. We paid 240$ for two inl tip. Recommended ( and there is a steak if you want one!).

Business dinner for two. I know from past visits that the Oval Room has excellent food. That evening, my client's venison was excellent, but our tuna sashimi appetizer and my rockfish were ho-hum - not living up to the expectation.
On the service side: the fish I wanted to order (black cod) was on the menu, but declared as not available by the waiter (at 7 pm early seating ...). First downer. Our waiter was so-so. Made a number of mistakes - including pouring my client wine from somebody else's bottle. His wine recommendation for us was spot on though.
Expensive - but that's already well known.
