“Difficult to find, easy to like”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

We stayed at the DuPont Circle Hotel which was within walking distance of this restaurant. Unfortunately I misread our map and turned a simple walk into a long one. Finally ariving across the street from where the restaurant was supposed to be, all I could see was a big Rite Aid on the corner. Fortunately, my wife saw a flag with the word "Taro" on it at the rear of the drug store. We went to it, saw steps, and went up them. The restaurant was on top of the drug store! The sushi was very good. The Japanese gentleman who served us was even better, friendly yet so dignified. We were seated next to a window and were entertained by people hurrying by below from work and school and especially by people walking their dogs. Satisfied and refreshed, the walk back to the hotel on the right street was much shorter!

“Very Interesting Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

I'm not expert on Japanese food, but it was my wife's 30th birthday and her choice of restaurant. She lived in Japan for a year, and was excited by this spot's promise of very traditional Japanese food that isn't the typical California, spicy tuna roll kind of biz.

We had the 10-course kaiseki menu, which is apparently a very traditional style of Japanese dining in which the chef prepares dishes for you that highlight freshness, contrast, and texture. It was pretty mind-blowing--not because everything I ate was delicious (in fact, some courses were just downright odd, like an asparagus and oyster roll paired with pomegranate Jell-O), but because of the presentation and attention to detail. What I expected was a horizons-expanding dining experience, and that was exactly what I got. It's not a meal I'll forget any time soon.

Service was great.

“Super Sushi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

A great selection of fresh fish and beautifully presented mixed sushi and mixed sashimi, including interesting range of fish, washed down with some excellent Japanese beer. Friendly service.

“Perfect, just perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

When writing a review, Trip Advisor always asks ,"Is this one of the best meals you've ever had in a restaurant?" and I am answering with an enthusiastic, "yes". It was perfect in every way - ambiance, service, food. Take the time and splurge on the tasting menu -- you will definitely be glad you did
