This restaurant had been recommended and it did not disappoint. Clearly the word had spread because it was packed. The service and food were amazing and all pastas are made on site. One piece of advice....do not eat before you go. The portion sizes are in abundance.
One small down side is that it is pricey. However, if you are prepared for that, you will love this place.

We had so many people recommend this place so went in with HIGH expectations! We have had some amazing Italian food from Chicago to the Amalfi Coast and the minute we walked in were excited for the experience.

How was that experience? The atmosphere was great, the spot itself was intriguing and the service was really top notch! Perhaps that added to the dissatisfaction with the food? Our server was tremendously attentive and personable, the place was packed and watching the "pasta mamas" making fresh pasta added to the intrigue. So you can see how it may be difficult to write a bad review about this place, but I digress (to the food)...

We started with the fried mozzarella: The breading was far too thick and tasted a bit stale. The mozzarella itself was really good and the accompanying sauce was good too but that breading killed the dish. My wife had the Vodka Pasta and I had the Braised Beef Pasta (Winner of some Taste contest). The vodka pasta was definitely al dente while the sauce was rather tasteless....we asked for a side of sauce but never received it. So the dish was rather lackluster in general. The braised beef, let's call it ravioli, was interesting. Served in a bowl I had 8-10 pockets of pasta filled with "roast beef" and smothered in a heavy cream based Marsala sauce. The beef had somewhat of a sweet taste to it while the pasta shell (again al dente) had little flavor and the sauce, despite menu stating a "touch of cream" was primarily cream.

Was it bad? No I do not think I can say it was bad it just did not live up to expectations. The dishes were not the shining star we hoped they would be based on the recommendations and reviews, but everything else was great. So the ultimate question is would we go back? Yeah I think we would based on all things other than the food, but next time stick to the basics. We watched a ton of spaghetti and meatballs or sausage roll by so perhaps the age old tomato sauce and simple pleasures are the jewels of this place?!

Don't run away from this place based on my review, but consider it as information. My recommendation is sticking with the simple dishes and if you don't like al dente ask for pasta well done. Perhaps your experience will be different, but this is a neat place in the Georgetown area worth (at minimum) a look during your dinner decisions.

Four of us enjoyed a nice dinner Sunday at Filomena. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was unique. We each had different pasta dishes that ranged from very good to excellent. The portions were huge because the food was so rich. We'll go back but it was overpriced considering the ingredients (pasta, cheese, butter, a bit of protein).

If you are in the Washington DC area this is a must. The food was fantastic. The only negative is it was too much and I couldn't stop eating. Decent wine list. Service was fantastic.

Highly recommend a reservation regardless of what night of the week.

It was pretty authentic Italian. A lady was making fresh pasta in the window. Restaurant is in basement. Staff was very accommodating. Food portions were huge.. Too huge to order dessert later. They give you complimentary sambucca and amaretto when you finish your meal. It was a nice date night restaurant... Except for the other obnoxious patrons(which can't be helped) highly recommend this place. You will spend money.. But it was a very nice experience.
