Made a reservation the day before while visiting family in VA. Could only get a 3:30 res for Sunday. Every inch of the restaurant was decorated for Xmas, which created a charming cozy ambience. Now here's the bad news: The Caesar salad was shameful--watery romaine lettuce is the kindest description. The house wines were absolutely blah, but premium priced. Tried the super Tuscan and the Chianti. The bread was warm and looked like country Italian bread but taste and texture was white bread. So why 4 of 5 stars? Our waiter advised us which pastas were homemade and which were not. We all went for the homemade: Raviolis and meatballs. The meatballs were huge and generous. They were light, meaty and absolutely delicious. The tomato sauce was awesome without a hint of acidity. The huge raviolis, stuffed with ricotta and spinach were to die for. So light, they seemed to float on the plate. Best we've ever eaten. Would ignore the bread, salad and wine deficiency and go back again and again if we lived in the area. Oh, and don't forget the desserts. One melt-in-your-mouth eclair would easily satisfy three people.
