Had seafood with pasta and red sauce. The best of 1,000+ Italian restaurant meals I have had in restaurants. Awesome!

Then go inside and order the one that looks best. The service can be a bit chaotic but it is always friendly and the sauces are rich and delicious. The arancini is so good and the linguini is outstanding. It can be a bit crowded so don't go at 7 pm on a Friday night.

Maybe we picked the wrong night ("Superstorm Sandy" was scheduled for next day, and while the restaurant was fairly busy, vacant tables suggested cancellations), but having selected "Filomena" based on positive reviews we read, we were very disappointed.

Located in the affluent D.C. suburb of Georgetown, the venue is deceptive in size from the outside. The dining area is actually a large Basement, and to be honest, we found it to be a dull & somewhat depressing place - lots of banquette seating with dark decor & noisy as well. But as ever, trying to be positive, (also trying not to focus on the fussy lacy place-mats) we faced into the menu & winelist choices !

Our Server, Fernando (quite formal traditional waiter outfit), was pleasant enough, and gave us a helpful rundown on the differences between two Chiantis we were considering (from a quite limited winelist), as we sampled a glass of an o.k. Pinot Grigio.

We shared an "Antipasto Misto" - the Parma Ham was decent enough but the overall dish was "nothing to write home about" (we've had far better, at far more reasonable cost, elsewhere in D.C.!) The bread selection was tasty enough.

Our Mains - a Penne dish, and a Risotto - were a bit better (but hardly "brilliant") and of course we couldn't claim that these were "small portions". The accompanying Chianti was consistent with Fernando's description and while reasonably good, was certainly not "under-priced" !

Having struggled through our 2 Courses, we declined to add Desserts. Keeping with what seems to be the restaurant's standard practice, we were offered (and accepted) an Italian liqueur, which was fine.

The Bill / Check was "heavy" for what we got, but we didn't penalise Fernando when we added the Tip. We wondered as we headed-off in a Cab whether this restaurant's pricey and very disappointing offering is determined by its location in an affluent Washington suburb, by complacency, or what ?

For us, based on this experience, we will definitely not be recommending a visit to "Filomena Restorante" !

Good homemade pasta, with a menu to satisfy any taste. The desserts are also homemade, & both the chocolate caramel cheesecake & cannoli were beautiful. Service was attentive, food was delivered hot & quickly, & gratis Amaretto & Sambucca topped off the meal. We have already rebooked for tomorrow night; our last night in DC!

Went to Filomena tonight purely based on the recommendations here with a party of 5 others. Great Italian and the restaurant is fully decked out in the Halloween spirit.

Stupid me forgot everyone telling me the sizes were way too big. Wouldn't of had the entree if I had remembered. Food was great, had the Veal Cannelloni with mushrooms. Very interesting as was expecting traditional Cannelloni.

30 min wait, which was fine as we had predinnner drinks at the pub next door... Very busy so may be important to book (we didn't).

Restaurant is quite dark so menus difficult to read. But hey, it is Halloween themed!
Wine list was very extensive and the wine buffs enjoyed choosing some Italian wine.

Gave us complimentary Sambucca et al. to finish the night. Could have drunk it all but that would have been dangerous!
