Description: Paying tribute to Theodore Roosevelt, one of history's most beloved Presidents, Teddy and the Bully Bar captures the essence of the 26th President - noted for his exuberant personality and range of interests as well as his "cowboy" persona and robust masculinity. The distinctive menu at Teddy & The Bully Bar reflects Theodore Roosevelt's love for simple food, including steaks, fried chicken and house-made cornbread. Dishes featuring game such as bison, wild boar and venison reflect his love of hunting and the outdoors. Our seasonal menus feature quality, locality and simplicity. We pay special attention to our local producers, bringing you the freshest fare available and representing President Roosevelt's belief to "do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

“Great Dining experience!”

No reservation just a walk in and was seated right away. Extremely loud bar area so avoid sitting in there. We sat in the restaurant. It is a small plates restaurant so you share. Teddy's fried chicken was excellent so was the flat bread pizza. It is actually a good value! Be sure to go the Teddy Roosevelt Island and this restaurant at night to make the whole day about Teddy!!

“Eat and drink here!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

There are so many excellent choices in the Downtown/Dupont Circle area to eat dinner. The newly opened Teddy's is worth pointing out. The owners also own Lincoln which is also very good but can be crowded and difficult to get a reservation. Teddy's is just as good, if not better, and not yet discovered by many people. There are three reasons to choose Teddy's: the food, the drinks, and the artwork/history. The food is provided in more of a flowing kitchen format (new term to me) where food comes out when it is ready rather than wait for all of the food to come out together, with the intention of being more of a tapas arrangement. I fell in love with the crab and avocado. The ferro side dish was like risotto and delish. We also really enjoyed the rockfish and a veggie combo. Everything tasted excellent and was also presented tastefully. The drinks were explained and presented with thoughtfulness and care. Teddy's wants to emphasize the age of cocktails and perhaps bring a rebirth to "the cocktail". Our waiter, Kayvon, patiently helped us to make the right choice for each of us. They also have a gimmicky 2" ice cube to reduce the dilution of the drink. Not only was it effective, it was also pretty neat! Teddy's brings some interesting, creative artwork to its walls. There's a very unusual bit of art with 480 (?) miniature Mt. Rushmores, there are inspiring quotes of Teddy Roosevelt's, and they have tried to bring a sense of history appreciation in a number of small ways. Perfect way to top off a day in Washington, DC whether you are here as a tourist or a resident.

“Some growing pains, but promising future”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We visited Teddy on their first day, so expected some snags which indeed happened: service was spotty and the first wine we ordered wasn't the one we asked for (it took them quite a while to fetch the right bottle). But most of their (small, tapas-style) dishes were very good, and the atmosphere was lively - so we expect things to improve.
