Al Dente is near my home, so I walk there frequently for an evening meal. I notice the reviews are spotty--some love it, some hate it. I only have had good experiences there. My one complaint is that there's little sound absorption so the place gets loud which makes it difficult to talk. But if you desire a good pasta dish, pizza, salad, or sandwich, come on in--just expect it to be noisy and a bit crowded on weekends. Sometimes the service can be slow, so I hail a waiter and complain--resolved. I went there on Tuesday night, October 22, 2013, and loved my Farro Whole Grain Fettucine ($16.95) which had basil, cherry tomatoes, garlic, & olive oil. My discriminating fellow diner liked the Tagliatelle all Bolognese ($17.95). In the past I've tasted their pizza (excellent) and sandwiches (also good). Exec. Chef Roberto Donna is serious about his food and plans special food nights which you can follow on their website www.aldentedc.com. Also on their website are their menus, prices, and all information you need to make a reservation. There is outdoor seating in good weather. I look forward to going back. Open for lunch & dinners. 202-244-2223.
