Belgian restaurants are inordinately popular in DC -- there are supposedly more here than anywhere else in the USA, whether measured per capita or just counted. Irrespective of the mystery, St. Arnold's is a good choice. This review is specifically of the Cleveland Park location, but there is another in DC. The upstairs is all windows, so light and airy, but go to the Abbey downstairs where it is all wood and bricks, and where bands play on weekend nights. The menu is mostly mussels in about a dozen and a half styles. The descriptions are accurate, and the flavors imaginative. The hot pepper and habanero version is appropriately hot for a chile-head. But, there are plenty of good belgian beers on tap and in bottles to keep you cool. The wine selection is kind of weak, though. The sandwiches look good, as does the roast chicken. The service was friendly and appropriately attentive. they readily accommodated our party of nine on a Saturday night. St. Arnold's in Cleveland Park is a good place to go before or after the Uptown Theater across the street.
