“Great place at the Hay Adams for drinks and food”

Very good bar and also very good lunch. This is probably a place only known to insiders. If you are in DC try this place. You will get very good service, a very good meal (salad portions are good and entrees are more on the european sized side), and still be around the WH and mall area. Away from big crowds but within walking distance of all key locations.

Very nice and rich. I went on a slow Sunday when not many people where in the place and that's a ok. Had a couple Bookers neat and some French Onion soup - what a combo. My lovely bartender was friendly and attentive. Made me feel right at home. I would recommend this place to my friends and only the best ones. Besides you are just a little ways from the white house although its a world away tucked in a basement.

I wasn't expecting to be blown away.... not at all!

The location feels seductive and politically influential... just a few steps away from Obama but hidden away in the basement of the Hay Adams exclusive hotel. Warm red and plush interiors, hob nobbing types and other such important looking people.. who knew politics and sexy mixed so well?! (-:

The crab cake and regular burgers (slider version) were actually (and surprisingly) out of this world delicious. There was definitely some special and unique sauce on those bad boys because man oh man were they heavenly. Up there with the best burgers I've had anywhere, for sure! I'm still dreaming of these burgers. Pass on the truffle fries - they were thick and soggy and barely tasted of truffle. The regular fries were definitely better.

Don't forget to ask for a yummy homemade cookie as you pass the front desk to leave the hotel. A perfect treat to the end of the dinner.

This bar, which is inside of the Hay Adams Hotel, is literally across the street from the White House. The atmosphere is really great. It's just a little bit dark, it's mahogany walls are lined with caricatures of some of D.C.'s most infamous politicians, and looking around you just might see a few real life wheelers and dealers in the flesh.

Since this place is just a block of two from my office, it is a frequent spot for happy hours. It also happens to be one of the only places in D.C. with a proper Dark and Stormy on the menu, making it a personal favorite of mine. And, to top it off, Off the Record is one of those rare bars where the food is actually amazing.

When we go, a group of 5 or so of us will order the charcuterie platter, which comes with a healthy variety of meats and pates, the cheese platter, which comes accompanied by fruit and nuts, and a few sliders to share. The lobster slider is heaven in a bun. For a long time, they offered an Ahi Tuna slider, which was also incredible. But on my latest trip, they had replaced it with a crab cake slider, which was also quite tasty. The pastrami and mini burgers are also good, but a little less noteworthy. This assortment is more than enough to amount to a healthy dinner.

The only downside to Off the Record is the Hay Adams price tag. Cocktails run close to $15 a piece, which means this is more of a special occasion happy hour location than a routine one.
