“Quality hotel at the edge of Georgetown.”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

A few minutes walk from Washington Circle and around 5-7 mins to Foggy Bottom metro stop. Also easy to flag a taxi outside. Conveniently, there is a convenience store and a coffee shop next door and a Trader Joe's just around the corner. I had a deluxe double room and it was HUGE..! It had a work/ seating area and a sleeping area (see photos). Very tastefully decorated. Also a nice lobby area with a fireplace (see pic) and very friendly helpful staff too.

We ate the crab cakes in the restaurant one evening and they were very good. I also ordered room service once - crab bisque which was nice and peppery with big chunks of crab in it, although possibly not quite warm enough. Just remember that the price you see on the menu will be subjected to service, tax and tray charges - hence my 20 dollar bill actually ended up being 30 dollars! You do get complimentary iced water with the meal without having to ask for it.

Good fitness centre - open 24 hours and with 4 treadmills - but, wow, it was packed at 6.30 am every morning!

Only two gripes - the breakfast is à la carte rather than buffet which is nice when you have lots of time but not very convenient when you are rushing. Also, there is no kettle in the room. Complimentary tea and coffee are available in the lobby in the morning, but no facility if, for example, you would like a cup of camomile before bed. Tea and coffee from the bar was very expensive (5 dollars before tax and service is added).

Nevertheless, a very good quality hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

We celebrate my wife's birthday every year with dinner at a special (usually meaning expensive) restaurant in Washington DC. Since we live about 30 miles west of the District, and we like to have some alcoholic refreshment with dinner appropriate to the celebration, we are not inclined to drive home after dinner. We looked at many of the fine hotels near our restaurant and discovered after a nice chat with hotel employees that the hotel was directly across from the restaurant. Perfect, and the price was very reasonable for the area and included parking overnight. Couldn't be a better location and the facilities are top rate. I would recommend the hotel to anyone!

The room we stayed in was very beautiful. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and the water pressure and heat were awesome! We stayed in a mobility impaired room. No exhaust fan in the bathroom though. When we were at the Melrose, the weather was extremely cold. There were times when we would pull up to the front of the hotel for valet parking, and no one would come out to get the car or it would take too long. Once I even had to walk in to the hotel to ask for someone to park our vehicle (and it wasn't because they were busy;they were just hanging out in the lobby and didn't notice us). There was a line of unattended vehicles in the valet area which caused our vehicle to stick out in traffic. Had no other choice but to use the valet because there is no parking available..and good luck finding parking on the street near the hotel. I suggest they give the valet their own separate kiosk at the front so they could see when vehicles come up, and so I don't have to track someone down to ask for them to bring my car up front (We did after all pay $45 per day for valet).
We asked for a wake up call because we had a very IMPORTANT appointment, and we never got one. We ended up getting up late on our own and showed up with about 5 minutes to spare.
Room service was fantastic, but some of the food from their in house restaurant was lacking in flavor.

Thank you, schaf2014, for your very constructive review of Melrose Georgetown Hotel. I sincerely apologize for the lack of quality attendance with our valet services. Melrose Georgetown Hotel believes in making your stay as smooth as possible, and what you experienced in unacceptable. I will look into seeing where the breakdown in communication happened in regards to your valet service and wake up call. We hope you will give us another chance to impress you on your next visit to Washington, D.C.

The staff were universally helpful. The room was comfortable and the exercise room is open 24 hours/day. The location of the hotel in convenient to the Metro and easy to find. My room service dinner was tasty but the menu selections were limited. No coffee machine in the room was a disappointment since the coffee downstairs is not set out until 6:30. Not ideal for early risers like me. I would definitely stay there again.

My first time at a 'Boutique' hotel and I was truly impressed. The hotel staff was extremely pleasant, decor is beautiful and ecclectic - room was the same. I would stay here again when we next visit DC.

Room Tip: Our room was great, but if one of your criteria is the view - ask not to be put in a room with a vie...

We enjoyed our stay. The room was large and clean. Hotel is very convenient to Georgetown. We walked to the National Mall and spent the day visiting museums. At the end of the day, the $10 taxi fare to get back to the hotel was a bargain!

The cab driver had an easy time finding the hotel and check-in was a breeze. Our double room was spacious and comfortable. We stayed over the MLK weekend so it was not super busy. We were able to get in/out of the elevator with ease. One complaint that I do have is that I was not directed to the accessible entrance to enter the elevator area as there were steps to get to the elevator. I asked the desk clerk as I checked in about an accessible entrance and she said there was none. However when I returned downstairs I saw the lift. I went to check it out and it did not look too user friendly for the lay person. I do wish that someone would have escorted us to the lift so I did not have to drag my son's chair up and down the stairs. It may look like a stroller upon first glance but it is a medical chair as my son has a disability. Not all disabilities are as visible and not all medical equipment looks like a standard wheelchair.

Other than that my stay was great. There is a convenience store and a little coffee shop two to three doors down in case you have the late night munchies and don't want to spend the money on limited room service or a $4 coke. The location is great for shopping and eating in Georgetown. I also enjoyed riding the Circular when we wandered too far off. I would definitely stay here again if the price is right. I was able to find a good deal at booking.com.
