Every now and again, the Melrose would run a special and email it. That's the best time to strike because we're talking about significant savings. And unlike other hotels, they don't always fall in the middle of the week. Sometimes, they run right through holidays so if you're on their list, be on the lookout for that.
As for my experience, I have mostly positive things to say. The location is it's biggest selling point.
Even though they advertise themselves as Georgetown, I think it's more in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. The Foggy Bottom Metro is only 3 blocks away. You'll see a bunch of college students since George Washington University takes up most of the Foggy Bottom space. That's not a bad thing. The streets below are busy but safe for the most part. A bunch of restaurants close by. They have a deli next door and mini mart just a few steps further down. Georgetown is only a few blocks away so there you have it...a good location!
The rooms were good and you may have one with a DC or politics theme. Fair amount of space for a hotel room downtown Washington. And for the price!
My last stay, they mentioned that they were using a new reservations system. For some reason, I got double-booked without knowing. The hotel management straightened it out, but since this is an advisement web site, I advise that you make your reservations with a human being by calling the hotel directly. I believe my issue came when booking online.
I definitely recommend staying here. Keep an eye out for their specials.

Great hotel. Got a good price of 60 pounds. Thats about 90 bucks. The room was great and spacious. A short walk from G Town. Subways. Etc.

The service was fantastic. They hooked us up with maps, places to eat, taxis. The receptionist was amazing, I am unsure of her name. But so helpful. Which I really value at a hotel. People don't realise how important staff are.

Great stay. Thanks guys.

We stayed one night while interviewing at the Reagan Building on Pennsylvania Ave. The hotel is spotless and EVERY employee we met had a big smile and asked us about our stay. We had booked it online and got a superb rate for DC, plus they upgraded us to an executive suite. The rooms were large and comfortable and the bed felt brand new. Big fluffy pillows on the bed and comfortable furniture in the sitting room. The stay just couldn't have been more pleasant.

Excellent location! The hotel is a few minutes walk from the main shops and restaurants in Georgetown and about 10 mins from the White House. There is a metro station about 3 mins walk away which gives you access to the blue and orange lines so visiting distant attractions is easy. The staff were very friendly and always greeted you as you entered or walked round the hotel. The hotel was clean, well maintained and the room was very comfy.

We stayed a couple nights at the Melrose during the March on Washington. The hotel is nicely decorated and spotless! Really good customer service. Valet parking was a bit steep for me at $45... It may be worth your while to park in a public garage. http://washingtondc.bestparking.com/ This site says there is parking available within walking distance for around $10. It is only about a 2 block walk to the nearest Metro but it seems longer. Overall this I had a VERY nice stay here!
