Downstairs at the Black Fox Lounge on Mondays at 8pm is an eclectic cabaret created and hosted by Regie Cabico. Music, singing, poetry reading and comedy -- there is a little bit for everyone. It feels almost like "open mike" but it really is a venue for local DC artists to showcase their talent. $10 cover. Drinks are kind of pricey but you don't go there to get drunk. It's a welcome addition to the DC art scene.

Black Fox is my ideal neighborhood bar/hangout. It attracts businessmen and visitors to DC, has a fiercely loyal local "fan base," and you can depend on meeting interesting people here. It's a casual place but the interior is quite attractive and elegant. Disclosure: The owner and I have been friends for 30 years and Jim is the reason why the place is what it is. Live music is one reason why I like the place so much. Mainly light jazz with some R&B, soul and C&W thrown in depending on who's performing. Typically on weekdays there will be a trio at the front window on the first floor and on weekends, downstairs. Black Fox is also the perfect place to have your birthday party or office function since you can rent out the entire bottom floor for your affair.

The food at Black Fox is also really good. The owner worked in the food service part of a cruise line many years ago and I have to say that every item on the the small menu is good. Prices for food and drinks are quite reasonable for a Dupont Circle bar. The Bananas Foster is probably my favorite dessert.

But it's the friendly, relaxed atmosphere that I think is the reason Black Fox attracts so many different kinds of folks just to have a drink, meet up after work, have light dinner or late night snack, listen to some good music and just chill. It really is a great place.

This is a great small bar with a lovely owner & the most amazing live music in the evenings. Very atmospheric & friendly.

Walked in and the upstairs was kind of lightly crowded, but then we discovered the downstairs live music venue. What a treat as the place was super. Lively crowd, yet intimate setting. It was a good mix of age groups, and we enjoyed the appetizer menu. Lots of fun. We'll be back.

Great place to get drinks... Don't know about the food since we got there late night. Daniel was an awesome bartender, friendly and attentive... He even gave us his chocolate mousse cake (yum!). Perfect place to hang out and relax on our last night in DC.
