Ate here twice during recent stay. Lunch was good. Hamilton burger was very good, as were my friend's District wings. Server seemed to forget about us, perhaps since we were not drinking alcohol. Dinner with a larger party was a nightmare. The service was slow, then got slower after our trainee dumped a beer on one of our mates. They handled that part well, profuse and repeated apologies, free round of drinks and free dinner for the soiled but, again, service slowed to a crawl. Again, food was good. Fish and chips, rack of lamb, New York strip, Chesapeake Bay rockfish, apps, eclectic draft beer selection and milkshakes shone, but couldn't overcome the glacial service. Go, just allow extra time.

Looks closed/dark from the outside but is really quite expansive! Interesting John James Audubon bird decor! Excellent knowledgeable server. Delicious fresh food, great bar selection. Seated for brunch right away w/ no reservations. Find this place, short walk from dc attractions.

Went here late night for dinner after a show, when told that the Old Ebbitt kitchen was closed unexpectedly. We were sat at a corner table immediately, and there were several additional open tables, so it wasn't like the place was packed. We waited a long time for our first visit from our server, and the dinner continued in that fashion. Our bar drinks arrived after our entrees (which were delivered by a runner, not our actual server). We again waited a long time before he checked on us, when we requested water refills and ketchup - and then waited a solid 10 minutes before they arrived. Getting our check was a similar exercise in patience - thankfully we had cash so we laid it down and left- otherwise charging our card and returning it to us would have been another 20 minute affair.

When Old Ebbit Grill was too crowded with a 90 minute wait, we felt VERY lucky to have stumbled upon The Hamilton and get seated right away! It was crowded, but well staffed and the food was very good! They have an extremely varied menu, so everyone can find something tasty to eat! Portions are generous- you will not leave hungry! I strongly recommend The Hamilton!

If you are staying at a hotel near the White House and National Mall, then this restaurant is within walking distance of your hotel. There is one hostess stand, and for some reason, they only had one hostess on duty on a Sunday night. The hostess was responsible for taking names and escorting guests to tables, which made the line to check in longer than it should have been. My husband had The Hamilton's signature hamburger, which he really liked. I had the half chicken, which was okay. The side dishes served with it (carrots, onions, and farro) were unusual, and didn't really compliment the chicken. We also had the milkshakes, which were pretty good. I think they were supposed to be a dessert item, but they came out before the meals. I would probably go back here again, but I would not order the chicken dish. If you have food allergies, let your server know. They do not have a gluten free menu, but our server did check with the chef to see if my food was safe for me to eat.
