“A magical old house”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

My mother, my sister and myself stayed at the Swann house for 4 days on a trip celebrating my birthday. We were lucky enough to get the Blue Skye suite, a beautiful room on the third floor. Mary and Isabelle were attentive, making great restaurant and museum recommendations and even going out of their way to take my request for breakfast on my birthday and sing me happy birthday! As a first stay at a B&B, we were spoiled and made to feel at home and like part of the Swann House family. The only reason this lovely inn did not get 5 starts is the day bed was slightly tilted down, but other than that, I would recommend this place to anyone. Make sure to look for your room's guest journal... we found ours in the closet.

Room Tip: READ THE ROOM DESCRIPTIONS! The suites are very well appointed, but some of the non-suites are on th...

My husband and I just had our 8th visit to Swann House. We love it so much; has everything you could want in a B&B. So convenient, so safe, and so much to do in DC, knowing you can return to Swann House each evening. When we first arrived I was a little concerned by the person on duty at the time, but then the amazing Ashlie arrived and everything was right with our world. Both days she promptly began the breakfast in the morning with a cheery attitude and an adorable outfit that looked like a sweet mom from the '50s, even though she's way too young (which is why it worked so well for her!). Hope you take that as a compliment, Ashlie! The food was fresh and delicious and served with a friendly smile. We couldn't ask for more and are already looking forward to returning! Thanks, Swann House!!

I used to visit Washington quit often, walked by this beautiful house and never thought it is such a gorgeous place to stay. Every detail is thoughtful, the people who run the pace are so kind and doing their best to make your stay as enjoyable as it can be!!
Ashley Rita and the rest of you- thank you so much

This property is wonderful. Aside from a very comprehensive introduction to the property the service is quietly unassuming and wonderfully thoughtful. Isabelle is a marvelous cook and provides a spectacular breakfast and delightful afternoon treats. Antonio was very thoughtful and after discussing the size of our room (which we chose due to the colour) he offered to upgrade us to a more spacious room. Location is wonderful and I managed to easily walk to both Georgetown and around the main historic areas of Washington (White House) easily. A lovely lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: The Nantucket room is deceptively small if you have luggage. The Richardson room on the same floor...

This is a very nicely restored house about 10 minutes walk north of DuPont Circle. We were very well looked after for our stay - met by Antonio who showed us round and gave us plenty of information on where to eat and what to do in spite of the shutdown. There's homemade cookies coffee and sherry in the evening and Isobel's excellent breakfast with home baked bread and a hot dish in the morning.

I don't understand the 'tired' comments - the rooms are all beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and clean en suites. If there are some chips and dents that's because it's well used but it's more than made up by the facilities provided.

The real value is from the other guests. It's impossible to not talk to them in the evening or over breakfast and it makes for a very pleasant way to swap stories and pick up tips (especially useful at the moment). Wifi is good too. If I had to pick a negative it's that it's not right on top of the metro or buses but that does mean the location is relatively quiet..

This House needs updating. Our room had area rugs and heavy draperies in it, that had not been cleaned for a very long time. The staff were ineffective in their help regarding sightseeing information. We had an early morning train to catch our last day, and were offered a " to go breakfast" which was not done. Great location in Dupont Circle. The afternoon sherry was the highlight. Located right across the city street from a public dog park, so if dogs barking bother you , this would not be a good place to stay.

We stayed at Swann House 5 nights and had a wonderful time. We had read many positive reviews on Tripadvisor and our experience lived up to everything we expected. The location was truly perfect - within walking distance of restaurants and the Metro station. The hotel has SmartTrip cards available for the Metro so no need to purchase, just load some money on and go. We especially enjoyed evenings on the front porch with a glass of sherry and snacks, just people watching. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was so comfortable we asked about purchasing one of the feather mattress pads and Ashley ordered one for us and we're looking forward to it's arrival! Breakfast in the morning was always to my liking although my husband is more of an eggs and bacon man and was not as impressed with the quiche and granola as I was. We had thought that our trip might be spoiled by the government shutdown but we had such a good time at the Swann House that we're talking about going back for another try. We stayed in the Shanghaidaway room which was on the lower floor. It was small, as most B&B rooms are but it was quiet and we weren't disturbed by any street noise. And the shower was amazing! Thanks, Swann House and staff for helping to make this a vacation we won't forget.
