“Great B &B in the heart of DC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

My husband and I spent last weekend at the Swann House, I have nothing but good things to say about it. This is a beautiful old house with much charm, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We stayed in the Regent room, it was wonderful. The room is quite large the bed was very comfortable, it has a large carved wood headboard, I felt like royalty climbing into it! The bathroom was very large with a very unique shower! There are several inviting places to sit in the common rooms and breakfast was very good. This is a special place to return to at the end of a busy day in DC. If you are a fan of B &B's, you will like this place.

Spending a few days in D.C. in mid-March, visiting museums and other sites on foot during a period of unseasonably cold weather, we were so glad to return to the Swann House in the late afternoon, sip sherry or tea and enjoy a slice of apple pie or coffee cake in the parlour, and kick back for a while before we headed out to dinner. The Inn is a few blocks from Dupont Circle, on an attractive street lined with embassies, and there are many good restaurants and a Metro station you can get to with a 10- to 15-minute walk.
Breakfast in the dining room was pleasant and peaceful, with guests sipping coffee and reading the morning papers. Fresh fruit, granola, toast, juice, and a hot entree (a frittata, for example) are always served. There is a pool and terrace area in the back, but we could only gaze wistfully at it as we layered up to go outside.
We stayed in the Parisienne suite, which is downstairs, under the parlour and dining room, but which has some natural light. It is as pictured except in a little reading area shown in the photo there are now a narrow crescent-shaped foam filled loveseat and two small matching chairs. (The armchairs in the photo look so inviting!) The queen four-poster bed, with its feather bed topper, was very comfortable. (Would have loved a duvet...) I traveled with a friend from my college days and we utilized the second bedroom (it has one twin and one daybed) so we would each have our own space. The spacious, doorless shower and the heated tile floor were great. The suite has its own entrance, but requires going down about a half dozen small and narrow steps to enter, which we did not mind.
The staff was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. We were able to leave our luggage there when we arrived early the first day and again when we left on check-out day hours before our flight, while we did some exploring. The Swann House was cozy, elegant, and in a great location. I'd definitely recommend it.
P.S. Pizza Paradiso off the Circle was great--as was the French bistro next door to it.

We had a fantastic stay at the Swann House located near Dupont Circle. The accommodations and
staff are outstanding. We enjoyed the daily breakfast and afternoon treats (sherry included).
We stayed in the Parisienne Suite access through a gated brick courtyard. It was very quiet. It was
spacious and had a nice sitting area near windows so you can curl up and read a book. The shower in the bathroom was luxurious. I highly recommend the Swann House to friends and
look forward to my next visit to DC.

This is a very lovely place. The Innkeepers are warm and accommodating. Breakfast is good, but a bit high on the carbohydrate side. However, there's always a hard boiled egg to fall back on.
My room was Il Duomo, on the top floor. A lovely room, but really not clean enough for me. The mirror in the bedroom was dusty and the bathroom was dirty around the bottom of the toilet. The curtain panels for the windows were filthy. Also, the bed covers are gorgeous, but look like they not have been washed in a long time. I would return, but to a lower floor. And I would inquire if all the bed things had been washed before my stay.

Came here for a weekend getaway. We had the Blue Sky room. I have some positives and negatives about the Swann House. The location of the B&B was very convenient to the Metro and to Dupont Circle. However, the B&B was across the street from a dog park. Dogs could be heard from our room barking at all hours. We were trying to have a relaxing weekend and catch up on some sleep and this was ruined due to the barking of dogs. Overall, the B&B had a nice appearance. It was a nice, cozy, restored Victorian home. However, I wasn't overly impressed with the room. Simple things like the bathtub were not kept up with. The room could use an update. From a B & B that got such high ratings, I wasn't overly impressed. I have been to nicer B&Bs.

This wonderful historic house is just around the corner from Dupont circle and a wonderful location, not too far from the metro. The staff are wonderful, friendly and gregarious. When I was there last winter sherry was offered in the common areas for free and crackers with wonderful spreads were put out daily. The place felt like a home away from home. It was warm and intoxicating. The rooms are luxurious and the beds are packed high with pillows and blankets. It is truly a great place to stay. All the rooms are decorated differently.I was in the Mary Rose room, which is a winner. Not sure about the others. Excellent place for couples as well.

Room Tip: The Mary Rose is a great room

My girlfriend and I were traveling to Charleston, SC and we had to take a break, so we called late one afternoon driving through Baltimore, and made a last minute reservation. They let us know what room they had left, and a little bit about it. We got there around 8 at night, and there was brandy available if we wanted some. The room we got was on the bottom floor, pretty much the basement. It was cozy and felt like our own world. We went out to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner, which was also amazing. The next morning we woke up at 9:25, and rushed upstairs for breakfast. We were nervous we missed out on what ended up being a great breakfast, but one of the ladies working said they were waiting for us, and she was extremely nice. After breakfast, we explored the city for awhile and then hit the road again. Overall great stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: If you want a room that you can get great sleep, ask for the Shang Hai Room its on the bottom floor...
