I know my review is late because I was at the swann house on October 2006, but I want to tell how wonderful was my experience there. I went to this B&B with my boyfriend for 5 nights, we were downstairs, with a privat entrance, and I have to say that was extremly quiet, also because the neighbourhood is very quiet. Close to the B&B there are several reastaurants, and the metro station is about 5-10 min from the Swann House
The B&B is very well manteined, and the staff was friendly and helpful! So thank you guys!!!To make an example my boyfriend wanted to go to an original American Army store (we are Italians, but he is fascinated by American Army) and the staff gave us the address in New York (our next stop in the trip) where to find it!The B&B is as a freind home where to spend some days! Our room was wonderful, it had a savana theme, with a separated living-room, a master bed-room, a second bed-room and the bath-room between the two bed-rooms. There was also a fireplace, but I don't know if it's working, but it also gives an atmosphere to the room.
In the afternoon it was also served wine, cheese, or bisquits.
I'm sorry that may scholastic English don't let me to express how wonderful was my permanence at the Swann House, how friendly and perfect was the staff, but I truly recomand this B&B to everybody woluld like to stay in a big city feeling as staying at their own home!

The Swann House sits in a suburban neighborhood great for walking or catching your breath from seeing the sights. It's a few blocks away from Dupont Circle, its Metro exits, and the Golden Triangle of restaurants and shops. It's also a short ride away from Georgetown.

It offers a small, secluded pool that's perfect for the city's hot summer air, and the complimentary bottled water in the minifridge is a must before hitting the sights. They also make a nice batch of peach iced tea and lemonade.

Swann House takes care of you during your stay, and the staff appears to be paid by the smile.

This is where you want to stay.

My husband brought me all the way from England to celebrate my 60th Birthday at Swann House. From the moment we arrived, it was a wonderful experience. Food/Service/Ambience were all first rate. On the actual day of my birthday, my husband went to the dining room to ask staff to deliver with my breakfast the birthday cards etc which he'd brought from London - not only was this done, but by the time I arrived to eat breakfast, someone had been into the garden and picked flowers and tied them with ribbon into a beautiful posy for me. Everyone at Swann House goes that extra mile to ensure guests have a simply perfect stay. I'd like to thank them all and hope to return for yet another birthday very soon. Our reason for selecting this particular place to stay is probably evident from our name.

My husband and I just returned from a weekend stay at the Swann House. I chose this B&B (which is actually a mansion about 4 or 5 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station) based on reviews on Trip Advisor. We reserved the room called the Shanghai'ed Away which was on the lower floor underneath the sunroom. It was exactly as pictured on the website. There was a full breakfast served each weekend morning. Saturday morning we had a frittata, and Sunday a French toast casserole. Both were delicious. Additionally there were all kinds of other breakfast items if you didn't want the main dish. But the part I really liked was that the staff was not at all intrusive. If you needed help they were there for you. If not, they left you alone. They were always polite and friendly. They just weren't compelled to tell you their political beliefs or find out yours. I would stay here again without any hesitation. It was lovely. Thank you Trip Advisor.

This was my second stay at the Swann house and I can report another excellent experience. Their website is superior and gives very accurate descriptions of each of the rooms - including any warts you should know about. As a B&B every room is different so read carefully. The only problem with the website to watch for - and I think they were changing it - is that the defaul is set to "need parking". Also, beware the fairly hefty upfront cost - 100% if booking one night, substantial if booking more.

Upon arrival: the B&B is an easy walk from DuPont if you are moderately active - a flat walk that takes 10 minutes - tops - from the Metro. Easy as can be, just go up New Hampshire and you're there. The location is great - lots of walking traffic until late into the night, many restaurants within very easy walking distance, and many groceries, convenience stores, etc. The house is beautiful from the street - a proud red brick building that sits across from a small triangle of dog park. Many flower pots, etc. Be prepared to lug you bags around the cars parked in the drive (no room for wheelies) and to then go up a fairly steep set of stairs. Hit the buzzer and someone will let you in. Registration is simple and quickly taken care of. Since their website lets you book a particular room you get exactly what you're expecting.

The staff: there is a house manager, an assistant, at least a couple cleaning people and someone working the breakfast room - this is a fairly large staff. They all seem efficient and nice.

General ammenities: the front porch has two tables that seat 4 or so people each, great for breakfast or an afternoon drink. There is also a 2nd floor deck with a couple small seating areas, this overlooks the park. Both of these face East, so you get morning sun. Two rooms look directly onto the deck and while no one has ever said anything I do feel like a bit of an interloper when I use it while not staying in one of those rooms. There is a small pool out back that I never saw anyone using in the times I've been there. The bulk of the main floor consists of a large sitting area, a breakfast room, a small sort of garden room which contains a fridge that the guests can use, coffee/tea, ice buckets, an ice maker, corkscrew, etc. This room also has many papers laid out. In the afternoon there is sherry and a few goodies out for the guests. The staff seems eager and equipped to help you with tourist information, restaurants, etc. They are all fairly young and seem to know their way around the hot spots.

Access etc. When you check in you'll get a room key as well as the codes for the front door - very easy to remember and operate. The staff is not available 24/7 (there is an emergency number) but the phones are direct dial - the person who is calling needs to know your room number, but you know that when you reserve - as well as voice mail, etc. There is free high-speed internet that worked very well for me - no access codes or anything, it just worked.

Room ammenities - vary by size and room. The rooms are on three levels - one set below the main floor that I haven't seen but the web-site describes as fairly dark, I can believe this. The second floor has a couple very nice large rooms as well as at least one smaller room (Lighthouse) that is fairly small but still OK for 2 people. The third floor has a couple more suites, one ordinary room and one room that is really only suitable for 1 person (Nantucket). All rooms have nice bedding, robes, full bathroom ammenities, TVs, Clock Radios, etc. Do beware that some rooms share a small hallway for access and these can be noisy when your hallmate comes back well lubricated. Larger rooms gain more ammenities - larger TVs their own fridge, whirlpool tub etc.

General state of repair: good/excellent. A few small problems here and there, but this isn't a chain hotel, what do you expect. In "lighthouse" my shower head wasn't exactly fully fixed to the wall, but it didn't fall off and water can out, enough said! Very clean, although there were a few paint chips here and there - nothing that put me off. Nicely decorated throughout, even the smaller rooms have nice little touches, books on the shelf, little pictures here and there, etc.

Breakfast: more than adequate, but do know that it doesn't start until 7:45 weekdays - later weekends. If you have at 8:30 business meeting you will likely miss breakfast. There is a variety of cereals, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, very nice coffee, breads etc. There was one specialty bread (muffins, etc.) each morning I was there. I believe there is an actual hot dish on weekends, but I've not been at the Swann House for that.

All in all, a great place to stay. Good location and a bargain considering hoow quickly DC hotel prices are going up.

My husband and I stayed at the Swann House on the first leg of a two week jaunt around the southeastern part of the U.S. I have nothing but positive comments to relay in this review. The manager Rick was very helpful - both in instructions for touring Washington and in restaurant recommendations which were wonderful (Rosemary's Thyme was especially delicious). Also, the Innkeeper Elizabeth was wonderful. Our room, with it's own balcony, was very romantic and cozy and the whole essence of the "backyard" was one that leant itself to being in a villa in Tuscany. What a way to see Washington - the price is substantially lower than any hotel in or around the immediate Washington area - it's within walking distance of numerous restaurants, the Metro, etc. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone visiting D.C. who wants elegance and convenience and doesn't want to spend a fortune to obtain it.

We stayed at the Swann House in May 2006. We found our accomidations very nice. The location is great (One should consider staying in a neighborhood rather than downtown as the hoods stay alive at night.). Our room was spacious and clean. The hosts were very accomidating.

I would stay at the Swann House again. We already miss being there. Washington is still as exciting as ever - just watch for drunk congressman taking a run at you!
