“Great Location, Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

Spent a long weekend at the Hotel Monaco in DC. It's everything you expect from a Hotel Monaco. Clean, friendly staff and great rooms. Their location allows easy walking access to the mall an monuments or if you want to take the metro, it's right across the street. There are several great restaurants very nearby. I would absolutely stay there again.

First I will say that this is a great location and a decent price, so that goes a long way in a city. And service was very friendly. But there were enough little things that bothered me to not give it a great rating.
First, the rooms are weirdly designed... kinda small and the space is not well used. And there is a drop off stepping out of the shower... an accident waiting to happen. Beds and pillows weren't that comfortable, but not terrible. Street noise was noticeable but also not terrible.
Two weird things... there were wine glasses on the floor next to a room down the hall that were left there for a day and a half. And someone was vacuuming our hallway at 10:30pm on a Sunday night! When does that happen?
Last thing that bothered me is that I specifically called to ask about the parking and was told there were 2 rates, one for overnight parking and one for on call valet. I left my car parked for the duration of my stay but was charged the higher rate, which was $42/ night. Should have checked the bill before leaving, but I shouldn't have been charged that rate.

I'm disappointed too BrianE1972. You enjoyed your stay in so many ways! On your question, the nightly rate for parking charged is correct, but somewhere we got our wires crossed about how we quoted the rates - day parking is only for the day - not overnight. I'm bummed that left you feeling less than happy about your stay because that was an easy communication fix. I hope you return again, we'd love to make it up to you!

Arrived to an upgraded room with "duty, honor, country" balloons, a basket full of bath items and candle, champagne on ice, a beautiful thank you note from staff and a goldfish! Staff was very friendly and courteous, hotel is very clean and beautiful with much history. Walking distance to so much. We walked to Fogo De Chao, came upon Ford's Theatre and the Spy Museum and so much more. They welcomed our two small dogs in and had bowls in the room for them. The room was immaculate and didn't smell at all like dogs and was spotless! We had a jacuzzi which we enjoyed, and the hotel was so quiet. There is a wonderful bar/lounge courtyard area with outdoor furniture with cushions, chairs, couches, tables, etc…the staff was very nice and friendly. They had flavored fresh water with blueberries, strawberries, oranges and lemons, homemade cookies came out, a wine social every night! The valet workers were very nice as well and took very good care of our car. We had a man take our pets and luggage to our room and he was very friendly as well and always offering to help us! I can't brag about this place enough, but we have certainly found our little gem and getaway in DC. We will definitely stay here very time we visit DC and will be going back this weekend for a few days, June 7th and plan on sightseeing and going to our fav. restaurants! Nicole, Danielle and Ashely put together such a nice room full of goodies that we don't know how to thank them enough for their generosity and kindness! Way to go Monaco for being top shelf, classy, fun and caring! Looking forward to future stays at this wonderful place!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor and loved it. Easy access in and out and it was very quiet….Fogo De Chao...

I was only at the hotel for one night but really enjoyed it for my brief staff. The decor was awesome and the staff was really friendly and helpful. The building is a former federal postal building and it has a cool historical feel. The room lay out was odd - the bathroom was kind of added in oddly - but that's my only complaint. It lives up to other Kimpton hotels and I'd

I enjoyed my stay at the Monaco. The suite was immaculate and the staff was very nice. You couldn't ask for a better location. Verizon Center directly across the street, and fantastic restaurants in walking distance. Very close to the Spy Museum, wax museum and Fords Theater.

We booked a suite at this hotel for our family of four based on its proximity to the National Mall. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go and had a good selection of restaurants to choose from during our stay. In spite of some minor negatives, we would definitely stay here again.

The positives:
Location
The suite was very spacious and comfortable.
The bathroom had a nice jetted soaking tub and even Aveda bath salts.
The bed was comfortable.
Lobby and public spaces are stylish, but not overdone.
The little extras like a gift bag for the kids and a wine reception in the lobby in the evening.
The very thick stone exterior walls provided a quiet sleeping environment. We faced the street, but hardly heard anything.

The negatives:
The restaurant had some of the worst service I've ever experienced.
The bathroom details -- the terrible water pressure (or lack of) in the shower.
-- the placement of the magnifying mirror is way too high for most women.
-- the toilet roll dispenser is on the wall behind the toilet.

Room Tip: 4th floor was very quiet.

We recently had the opportunity to spend a night after a concert at the Verizon Center ( a couple of blocks away). The service from door to room to concierge is really on spot. The rooms are super clean, and pleasantly appointed. As DC is a "walking" town the location is ideal to get to the mall and all museums.
