“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

Spend Fri & Sat nights in DC. We had a room on the 1st floor (the basement): thought that it would be dark and cramped but we were pleasantly surprised as we received a corner room which was spacious and had a vaulted ceiling. Overall a nice room and bathroom: clean and fun and surprisingly, it was really quiet at night...no street noises, etc.
The hotel restaurant had a nice selection for breakfast / brunch. (We were out during lunch and dinner so cannot comment on that.) And the staff was very nice.
Location is great: right across the street from the metro and the portrait museum.
Also, caught part of a winter craft "fair" across the street.
I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you are on the 1st floor / basement floor: ask for one of the "larger" rooms and confir...

Green Features: They do give you a $5 credit (I forgot to what...sorry) if you leave a note out so that the cleaning staff does not have to clean your room for the day. We did not try this because it was not clear if your bed was made or not.

And we'd be delighted to have you back again Barbara b! The location really is smack dab in the middle of it all - and what isn't right here, is an easy walk or metro away. Thanks for the kind words and truly, please don't be a stranger!
Cheers

We stayed at this hotel because of its location near the Verizon Center and we can travel with our dog without an extra fee. They made her feel welcome every time we walked past the desk and when we arrived. The room was clean and you couldn't tell if animals had been staying in the room before.

We would not hesitate to stay there again...price permitting. The rates can vary quite a bit, but at least there's no extra fee for our dog to stay with us.

The location is terrific, directly across the street from the National Portrait Gallery and an entrance to the Gallery Place Metro. From the hotel, you are just 2 stops from Union Station, about 4 blocks from Smithsonians and mall. When we were there in the first week of December, there was a holiday bazaar lining the sidewalks just across the street, providing terrific holiday spirit. The hotel is just up or down the street from several of the best restaurants in the area. The room was small, but well-appointed, and the layout was fine. The bathroom was clean, modern, and lovely, and for once, the hotel provided a hairdryer that did not come over on the Ark. Hotel staff was welcoming and helpful, and the features of the hotel--once a Tariff House and Post Office--were quite lovely. All in all, we had an excellent 2-night stay and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Only 4 floors; better if not on the West side, where we looked straight into neighboring building.

Beautiful facade in a world of modern structure.

The staff are wonderful. I felt very attended to.

Rooms are wonderful but unlike some I had no goldfish to feed. This appears to be one of their things. Saw fish bowels so know they have them.

Bed nice.

Robes and stockings. So cute.

Do try this place.

I enjoy the Kimpton Hotels, so tried the Hotel Monaco when I was in D.C. for business recently. It's very modern, and they upgraded me to a big corner room with a fantastic view. I almost wished I could have stayed longer. The service was wonderful and the location convenient to my D.C. meetings. I would highly recommend this hotel. There is a very good restaurant there, but I had a reservation for another restaurant the only night I stayed in the hotel. I understand that their restaurant is one of the best in the city. I am a Kimpton InTouch member, and they always treat me so well. I encourage you to sign up as a member.

We definitely wish you could have stayed longer Caukwiphyllis, and yes, Poste Moderne Brasserie is our award winning neighbor - you can't go wrong with Chef Marron's delicious menu - I'm partial to the Chicken Paillard salad - please try it for lunch next time you're in!

I have been traveling to DC a lot over the past few months for work, and the Monaco is favorite hotel in the District. It is super charming and kind of quirky, which is how I like it :)

I love old buildings and this one is an awesome all-marble landmarked former post office that is DC at its best. The location could not be better -- Penn Quarter is really blowing up! It is a really pleasant place to walk around.

The Kimpton chain gets a lot of things that I wish more hotels did: free wifi (you only have to sign up to the loyalty program), and they have this nifty system where there's a yoga mat in your room, and free pilates and yoga classes are on demand on your tv, so you can stretch and get a little workout - so nice when you're on the road and eating carbs and stuff.

They have a cheery little happy hour from 5-6 and I have met some super nice folks during that.

My only negative is that the exact same room can cost 200 and then 400, for no apparent reason.

We spent a few days in a wonderful historical property named Hotel Monaco. It's a perfect centrally location, because a lot of the major attractions are within walking distance.

Our room was quiet and very spaceous and so the bathroom. There are very comfortable beds and all was perfect clean.

It's a great property in a perfect location with hospitality and comfort.

Room Tip: Room 439 is very quiet.
